On the topic of companies, Barcrest has been, as I like to call it, Americanized. (Buy a company and plaster your name and logo all over it f*** YEAH 'MERICOOOOR)

http://www.barcrest.com

Died a little inside, along with the industry which is just awful now, the once great 'Giants' have gone.

Barcrest, Vivid, Maygay, Impulse were all bought by Barcrest a few years ago making the Barcrest Group (and Red Gaming), now the only ones left are Barcrest-ish and Red Gaming still doing there own thing which is good!

Empire I think are stuggling trying to make 1000s of versions of Clockwork Orange (I dont hope they go under but I wouldnt be too bothered if they did ;)

Astra/Novamatic are still firing machines out, also Celebrating 15 years of partytime and re-vamping it! Along with doing £500s.

Games Media (used to be Global) are part of this scientific games jobby venture.

Mazooma are still doing some machines I think, QPS have changed their name or joined another company as I saw a brand new B3 the other day with the QPS logo, I would of thought they would of disappered years ago!

Electrocoin are still happily doing machines and quite a few high techs! And Concept games are chipping 99.9% of them and releasing there own games of which ive played a few (with other peoples money as I stil dont gamble ;)

Not too sure about VooDoo games?

Reflex are still going and doing pretty well with their Lady Luck machines.

Project are still going making plenty of B3s

MAB have gone, I hope it doesnt get bought and ruined with modern crap if someone ever decides.

Cool/AC Games made about 6 machines and disappeared off the face of the earth, along with Gemini which I think are doing more SWP machines.

Mazooma and QPS are both Bellfruit brands?

Also need to add JPM to the list, probably another defunct company as they recently went into administration...

well old this news dude. i was gutted when i found out, especially the withdrawal of the reel based market - thats why pubs are flooded with DOND shite.

i was hoping that a group would break off and reform the reel based sector

Well sort of... But it was still Barcrest on the website in the summer, now they have comprehensively rebranded the site into the unmemorable SG Games... It's the final symbolic binning of the Barcrest name, and it means it's unlikely to ever appear on the front of another machine.
I still find it difficult to believe that they want to abandon such a well known brand. Madness!

The Mazooma logo is now used for the Blueprint Games brand. IIRC correctly Danoptra (Bells parent) spun out Mazooma to make Digital and online games. I assume they renamed the company to Blueprint when I saw a King of Games machine in my pub from Blueprint with Mazoomas logo.

EDIT: wasnt Barcrest bought by IGT rather than Scientific Games?

Barcrest is a subsidery of SG, the logo of barcrest will still appear on their games.

ive always wondered why nobody has stepped up and taken barcrests place. now the £100 jackpot £1 stake has been passed - I wonder what new games will come out, and will somebody try to take barcrests place...

IGT sold Barcrest to Scientific Games back in 2011.

Sort of, but specifically now Barcrest has been rolled up with another company into SG Gaming, which is itself the British division of Scientific Games.

I do hope that you are right and that they keep the Barcrest brand on machines long into the future, but I will still retain my doubts at this time.

Mazooma, QPS and Bell Fruit were all owned by Gauselmann once upon a time, hence the sunshine they all had in their logos at one point.  This is no longer the case now though, so their logos changed.

These days Blueprint are owned by Gauselmann, so their company logo has that familiar Merkur sunshine in it.  You can always tell a Gauselmann company by the sunshine :)

I remember last year when I heard Barcrest was going was happy about it. I have fond memories of playing Barcrest machines in the 1990s and a bit earlier as a kid. Are there still alot of British gambling machine companies around Empire Games??

Jpm have gone into liquidation...apparently its all down to the pension fund the current owners inherited when they bought the company.

What a shame...they seemed to be back on the up in the uk.i dont play fruities anymore but i would have made an exception is id seen one of the new jpms.

It is a shame. However if he pension fund still dragged them down, even after the recent record highs on stock markets around the world, then it must have been in massively deep doo-doo. Interesting to ask the employees at this point if they would prefer a defined benefit pension scheme or a job, I wonder which they would go for?? Anyway, I suspect it will rise from the ashes as a pre-pack, and the name won't die, just the old debts.........

I suppose the problem mainly stems from "historic" pension liabilities attached to employees who are long since retired, and not so much from current employees.

In which case they are probably more directly concerned with the future of their payments than they are with the future of the company that they no longer have any direct connection to. I know it's not quite as simple as that but, with most people's priorities being their immediate financial security, old company loyalty will tend to go out of the window quite quickly...
