EDITED by Bencrest - Off Topic debating split and moved to abyss - my fault for hijacking thread. Feel free to see the thread 'Split - Have you ever left........' in the Abyss. I stand by everything that I said but it wasn't fair to ruin this thread
situation....
Playing empire game (one with monkeys, climbing pyramid), put in about 40, eventually get on board, collected at banana spin feature (usually around a tenner), but it gives me 4 poxy quid!! i put this 4 quid back in with no sign of return, and play on the machine nxt to me.
Some random non-fruit-machine-playing bint goes onto the empire machine and puts in a quid...second spin i hear the sound of monkeys, she's on the board. I look up and she's already at 8 quid.
I have to leave the arcade before i watch her get a likely bucket full of coins....
anyone else have to leave to save themselves from self harm??

If you find yourself in that situation, just stop playing machines, simple.
I'm sick of people saying 'oh, its too difficult, just like quitting smoking', well I've not had a cigarette for 2 months now and feel so much better it is unbelievable. I haven't played a machine since last July[ish], and although I still notice them when I'm out, I just accept I will be ripped off by the useless cheating gits and hang on to my money.
You would no doubt benefit from doing the same. Theres many people on here who have stopped playing machines, and I know people such as myself are always willing to listen, and help where possible. If you didn't mean that self-harm stuff, then shame on you :x , if you did, then I think you need to stop playing.

my post was more a light-hearted view on things
Regarding your fruit-machine-less past 8 months, surely your situation is no different to an alcoholic giving up alcohol, but then working in a pub. Surely you are still an addict even though coins are'nt passing through your fingers, what if someone tells you about this new, no-lose machine, are you going to wait yrs until it is emulated???
I can't see the point in a non-playing but emulation user, as surely your playing sytle is pointless. As a real user, I may take a poor feature to get £3 and run, but what is the point in emulation if you do that?? Is emulation not a way to understand the gameplay of a machine?? As a user, and emulation player myself, I never go for anything less than jackpot on the emulations, as, alike computer games, you always go for the highscore

EDITED by Bencrest, removed my off topic rambling
Gosh, a post for me to pull apart, always a pleasure.
Don't joke about suicide where gambling is concerned. I know people who has lost all their money. Taken out credit cards, maxed them out on bandits. People who have lost their family, their friends, their homes, their jobs, and yes, in extreme cases, even their lives.
I can't see any valid point there. I'm not an addict to fruit machines in reality, because when I see a machine, I think 'hmm, I wonder which ignorant tit is going to pour their wages into that, and then blame the machine, rather than seeing it for what it is'. People may think I'm a tit as well for talking like that, but I'm not the person who stands there for 30 mins [if you are bloody lucky], with my back turned on reality, pouring my wallet into a system that is designed to, over all, take 30% out of money in, and provide no entertainment.
My previous addiction to machines has no bearing at all on the above question. If the information was from someone I could trust, and it was easy to see if the information would work, INDEPENDANT of whether I had played a machine or not previously I would have a shot at it.
AND - TO TOP THAT ALL OFF :
Can I please reiterate that the idea of fruit machine emulation is NOT to help people work out strategies for machines?
Hmmm...I wonder what kind of replies I'll get to this?!

can't beat a debate
I'm sure you'll correct me, but if fruit-machine emulation is not for strategy, then what exactly is it for??
Its obvious that all users of the site have an interest in Fruit-machines (not emulation), and 99% of the interest comes from personal experience in playing machines. I'm predicting your counter-arguement will be that the site is intended for the production of "classics" that aren't in arcades any more.
My main point of arguement (although the original posting was not intending that), is that you have to have previous "real life" gaming experience to want to use the emulations. I fully understand, and applaud how you and others make old classics like cops n robbers. But how can you say that emulation doesn't partially promote gambling when machines such as party-time are emulated, and appear to be the most downloaded?, surely the reason for this popularity is due to these machines being played by users currently in the real world.
Why are the majority of posts from this forum, and the other forums based around when the latest technology will be avaliable to be emulated. The only reason for this demand is that people what the emulations for strategic purposes,

I was 'almost' and I know someone who has....
Me... Lost my place, most of my friends (apart from gamblers) my job (through stealing to sustain habit) and nearly my family (again from stealing)
My friend lost everything (apart from his family as they didn't know) and he worked in a Casino to top it off lol
I was lucky tho, through Gamblers anon and good friends and help from my now wife and of course FRUIT EMU
I still play, just a little every now and then, now I spend say £20 a month on payday thats it, if I lose I lose, if I win (like today, £95 up) I go out and buy something (digital camera this time )
but it is controlled.

regarding the 'used for strategic reasons' comments. I'd have to disagree.
YES you can play them to death to learn all th features.
and there are PROFESSIONAL gamblers who know the 'signs' of when a machine is about to pay (say UP POMPEII or what ever it's called for example shows 'certain numbers when it's due)
but for example, if yo put £300 (of emulated credits into a machine) what do you learn? unless you know exactly what you're looking for.. NOTHING
same as if yo put £300 in it in an arcade.
it'll play nicer probably, but you won't notice 'things' (I nearly missed a flashing JP feature 2day lol)
and I very much doubt people sit there with pen and paper, logging everything the machine does to 'learn it'
the only benefit I can see from emulation for current players (apart from being able to play for FREE which is always good)
the benefit is... when you play a machine you're not used to (say an old one for example) then you can find out how good or bad the features are.
to save you turning down say £6 for a feature that'll give you £3 tops

I totally agree with you, DaemonX. I find emulators useful, ie, when discovering that reflex may be worth £4 on some machines. A "real gambler" only goes for JP's and streaks, and so emulation doesn't help them. All i was saying that the average gambler user's the site to gain / improve there knowledge of fruit-machines.
As far a gambling is concerned, i feel you are one or you aren't one. No amount of using emulation can turn you into a gambler, at the same point, no amount of time not playing a fruitie can stop you being a addict if you are one

Hey its hard I know. Last year I took a vow to quit and it was simple enough, just dont go in them in the first place... There is plenty of other good things you can spend your hard-earned cash on.
It was such a good feeling being able to walk into a shop with cash and actually buy things instead of having no cash and trying to save every penny you have until next payday.
After the quit I have found a really nice girlfriend who I get along with very well and since I have the cash, I can afford to take her out for a nice meal or a drink.. Trust me, its a fantastic feeling...
So after a new wardrobe, and random bits and pieces I am a new man, free from the fruities and am loving life.
Bencrest, I know what you mean in reply to your first post.. I hate people whining about how they think its too hard to quit etc etc. To be quite honest, if you actually -WANT- to quit the just quit.. Its not hard. You might go ahead and say its easy for me to say, but i was in the same situation a few years ago. I am only 17 and I am SO happy I have kicked the habit before it is too late.

Yeah, I'm 19, should be off to Uni in September [all going to plan ], and owe about £600 on credit at the moment. I used to think, 'Hell, I have £100, I could pay £100 off of this card...Or put £100 into machines, either lose about £10 or maybe make an extra £100!!'
Ineviably, I'd lose it all chasing JPs, and there really is no point. The way I feel about machines now, I wouldn'y play them again unless they were 2p Play / £2 Jackpot, and offered an 'interesting' game.
I don't know how the gambling situation has gotten into the state it is in now, but it is disgusting that there is no regulation on the age of people playing machines in pubs [none of any use, I have played pub machines unsupervised from the age of 13>18, and some club machines to boot].
Well, I don't know if I finished that off properly or not, but I'm off to bed, plenty of work to do tomorrow

I know which fruit machines im sticking to.
Emulator fruit machines, money spent £0 (apart from a £10 donation to this site)
Real fruit machines, money spent, lots if youre not lucky, why do you think machines are called one armed bandits????
Stick to the emulator, I do... ive learned my lesson (one payday £230 wages gone in about 3 hours, felt sick as f**k)
PS, I smoke too, about 20 a day....
And I drink White Lightning cider too, yum yum

I agree with what you say about it making you feel as sick as hell. I remember losing around £150 from one weeks pay (at 14) in approx. 3 hourse on £5 JP machines. I felt like I could run out in front of a bus or something (I would'nt do, im not that stupid) I felt so sick and discusted with myself I just had to tell someone about it, and it helped me a lot to let another person know how I was feeling and what I had done..
Never again, Im happy buying my beer, new clothes and spending money on my lovely girlfriend than putting another £1 coin in the fruities.
PS. hehe Yea, white lightning is kind of labelled a tramps drink. especially the 3l bottles which I think are now banned. But hey, if thats what you like then who is anyone to talk..

[quote="No1Stoney"]I agree with what you say about it making you feel as sick as hell.
i`ll ditto that, that feeling of walking out after was awful.almost like a daze,i think paranoia set in too. it was even worse coming back a week later to try and recoup your loss.
i was 16 at the time when i was hooked on £3 JP machines.yep,£3!
i told my mum and she took my wages off me and gave me pocket money for 6 months or so.jeez that was so embarrasing, did the trick though,it scared me stupid!
i still use to have the odd quid in the pub but had the willpower to say enough was enough.
went in an arcade a couple of years ago was out again within a minute, the machines may have moved but i noticed people still playing 2 BAR X`s at once.never could understand the thrill of that myself!
like has been said before though,i`ll stick to the emulations that we are all lucky enough to get for free on here.

Well, that was an interesting debate, but I may well split it from this topic as it wasn't really relevant to the original question posed
With regards to Gayeyre saying that 'all the power has gone to my head' now that I'm a moderator, I have as of yet not had to split any threads, or move things to the abyss due to content, but I think it is worthwhile moving the posts from earlier. I'll put them in the abyss - if you decide you want to open the debate, feel free to start a thread, but I'll apologise for hijacking this thread
Expect to see some posts being moved in the near future

Just remembered the site...hope there's some new machines to get....
I just wanted to say I think we've all chosen to leave a machine at the wrong time....it's not nice to see 'your' money being taken by someone who doesn't look like they have a clue.
I watched some poor guy load about £50 into this beaver machine and he actually threatened the barman saying he would throw the machine at him if the guy didn't explain to him why the machine hadn't paid out....I really would have liked to see him try and lift it....I'm glad he didn't see me win the JP after he angrily left the pub, the only thing that would be thrown would've been me.

Hi Guys!
An interesting discussion. I must admit there have been times over the years when I have walked out of an arcade having 'taken a huge bath' on a Party Time/Magic Games/Bar X 7 to the tune of a few hundred, and felt like I never wanted to play a fruit-machine again. And I am one of the lucky ones who has managed to make some money over the years I have been playing, so I dread to think what must go through some poor souls' minds after their latest session.
The first time I lost four figures on a Magic Games I went home that night and slept like a baby. When I say that I mean I slept for an hour, woke up and cried, then went back to sleep for another hour, then woke up and cried again etc. This didn't stop me doing it again a few weeks later though. I didn't get angry with the machine (it's supposed to take my money), but I was mad with myself.
Some people vent their anger and sense of injustice by smashing up the machine in question. I've seen people pull machines forward and smash them face-down on the floor. All I could do was attempt to walk out of the arcade and past the manager with as much dignity as possible, which isn't easy after such a hiding.
I can recall countless times when I've left a lo-tech game only for some doddery old lady to appear from literally nowhere, fumble in her purse before eventually managing to get a pound in the slot. At this point you half expect something to happen, and sure enough it usually does as the lucky old bint manages to drop a ton from the machine in 5 minutes and make it look like the easiest thing in the world. It's painful to watch, so I don't. You never get used to these things. Never.
Still, rather fruits than heroin eh?

Hi Guys
I have left an arcade feeling really sick after going into a local Quicksilver arcade and spending around £1,000 in a day. I was at the arcade at 9am bang on opening time and left at 10pm closing time.
I play Fruit machines online now for fun and i have not been in an arcade for 1year. I get more out of playing fruits online. You don't need money, you just need fruit emulation.

£1000? Crikey, took me a week to lose that much
Sorry to hear about that, but glad you've not been in an arcade for a year. They can be so inviting with their free coffee as well
