Logging into Fruit -Emu taking me to different web page!

Best Answer aaamusements, 27 February 2014 - 10:05 AM

This should now be fully resolved and is not expected to recur. However if you notice anything similar, please let us know as soon as possible with as much detail as you can, preferably screenshots. Thanks.

I tried getting on to Fruit emu around 10pm last night and prior to been able to log on the page loaded up as this below!--

URL4SHORT.INFO - free url redirection and masking service

url4short.info

Looks some dodgy spam site to me.
Just wondered if it had happened to any other member and to make the moderators aware of this.
It is still happening today, but only when I click on the main Fruit emu title. If I click on a sub section eg Downloads,I go straight to the Fruit Emu page.
Also if i backspace from the site it takes me back to the site above!! :err:

I have ran several scans and no virus pop ups have appeared and all seems fine, but still is very weird!

It definitely sounds like you have been infected with some hijack code. What did you use to scan your system with?

Not all virus checkers can spot these type of malicious infections.

Is there anything weird in your hosts file "C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\" that is causing the redirect?

this happened exactly to me a few months back, and somebody on here gave me the advice to fix it. basically its an addon that had implanted itself into your prowser as an extension. simply remove/disable the extension.

If this is a highjack code or a virus, I was told that apple devices never get viruses. is this true? If not I need to fork out on a good piece of antivirus software. Any recommendations? Lappy uses the latest version of Microsoft seccurity centre.

What should I look out for in the drivers?

Only had this start yesterday evening.

I have windows defender and all ok with no detections, viruses etc!!

This explains things.

Keep getting a yellow A next to my search icons!

So how do I remove /disable the extension??

Cheers

Anything that runs computer code, has some degree of risk of being infected with malicious code, and Mac's are no exception!

Don't be fooled at all in to thinking because it''s generaly unheard of a mac not getting hijacked, a virus etc, that it's immune, because it's not.

There are common vectors in which nasty scripts etc can get in, like via web browsers, adobe flash (Not generaly a problem on mac's as Apple has killed pretty much all support for flash now), Oracle Java, codec's for audio / video, etc.

Same can happen with websites too, hence why it's best pratice to keep on top of updates.

I'll flag this thread to the mod's area, so any of the staff with full admin access can keep tabs with what is going off, because more than one person is reporting the same / similar issues.

Many thanks for the feed back Stan and flaging this issue.

I am still today getting the same dodgy web page come up.!

Alas have ran several full scans and no problems/issues detected.

Did this on my android phone today. Simply pressing back and clicking onto the webpage again sorted it. I am pretty sure with the amount of people getting it, its something to do with the server itself rather than everyone being hijacked?

I'm hoping this is not the case, but it is beginning to look like it could very well be.

Strangly, I have yet to experence this issue, though I do use a bookmark that takes me directaly to unread posts, rather than go through the main site URL

Would suggest to folks who are having issues, to try using the following URL, and report back with what you see etc.

Don't worry if you are not already signed in, as you will still be able to sign in via the URL.

Thanks for the feedback and flagging this issue Stanmarsh14, I am doing regular checks for software updates when I can get my hands on my Mac which is when I'm home! Does this apply to the iPhones and iPads as well? I don't seem to get any problem, probably because I haven't signed out and I have the fruit-emu portal set as my home page. If I return here from Youtube it seems to be OK as well. Kind regards, Tom. PS hope all of you are in the Crimbo spirit! Just purchased Now That's What I Call Xmas on iTunes.
