I must admit sometimes the replys are a 'little harsh' but it's only the same... and EQUALLY as annoying as someone going into a chat room and asking A/S/L (over18 / yes if female(human) / anywhere)
However, I am one of those who used to 'flame' people so I'm on Pgamblins side
hehe
Maybe we should put a request to Duplu saying can you update the homepage with for example....
NO PARTY TIME OR PIE FACTORY ETC... and NO PSYCHO CASH BEAST...YET!

Might be an idea.
I think i requested before a link or note on the account setup page that says Look dont ask for party time and read through the kb before posting. not sure whether it got anywhere though.

...Was writing a reply about an hour ago but I let it go thinking this post would take it's course.....but it didn't so......
Here's my bit......
Personally I don't think pg is offensive, should hear what he has called me in the past!--and the replies are jokes....Yes they are blunt sometimes, but they are always quickly followed up by another post by a member saying, "ahh don't mind him!!!, that in itself is a joke". I feel this lightens up the site as it cannot be serious all the time.
I don't think I have ever abyssed one of pg's posts, yet as pg said himself about daft Q's made before by 'X', he has answered them seriously then they get abyssed because 'X' turns out to be a jerk or whatever, weird how these never get comment's. Is it the fact pg's a regular?
I have never received any complaints from members directly about the joking, therefore this is an 'issue' purely because a thread has 'gone down that road', without this it would never have been mentioned.

Ady never abyssed any of my posts ?
8O Holy hell. thats a surprise to me.
It is a joke, sure it might be a little harsh but at the end of the day someone always comes back with a goodun (take Bencrest the other day "dont mind him he is the forum Git") this is the joke.
And then i play on the forum git bit and everyone gets a chuckle

However, when someone insults the effort that a designer has put into make what is IMHO a damn good 'compromise' layout, I wouldn't be at all surprised if other members flamed the user.
I must admit i am past caring if newbies put down my efforts, i make the layouts for me now and if any little tits don't like what i have done they can try and do better themselves.
My contribution to FME might not be 1000 layouts but over the years i have helped 100's of people (as well as slag the odd one or two off) Ask Ady, RB, Fruitymad or anyone else from previous years and you will see.
Yes you have helped out some newbies in the past, but since you started going down the flaming line i think you have become more of a hinderance than a help.
Lets be honest here, how hard is it to link to a kb post or just copy and paste a previous response?

my idea is the best.................
if you are not a regged board member then the first screen you get is a flash screen with no entry into the site for 6 seconds............
with the relevant information........
NO NEW MACHINES HERE>>>>>>>>>>>
after 5 seconds it throws you too the forums.........
once a regged member and you got the cookie in the pc no more flash animation.......and they might get the message then
or a nice big link to my PARTYTIME cloney type thing.lol

IM NOT ASKING FOR ANY MPU5!
Can someone give the divs on here some sort of time scale when MPU5 will be availiable,so that everyone can stop asking the same fkcuing question.....
..When MPU5 does come along you are gonna have to start up a web site just for that emulation cos there will be such a frenzy!!!!!!!!!

Hmmm. Is it any wonder there aren't many posts from new users, when questions are answered in such an arrogant manner? These forums seem to have a clique-ish feel about them, a bit like the NME "Angst" messagebord...
Wouldnt go that far. Still, as a new member myself, on a real fruit machine discussion reference PCBC, I was branded as trying to flog my Trivial Pursuit fruit machine, a thought which hasnt entered my head.
People are enthusiastic. Why dampen it?

I hope I am not speaking out of turn, but would just like to add a tuppenyworth...
I have built and run a number of forum based websites and it is sometimes difficult for me to bear in mind that new members can feel either intimidated, over-awed or simply don't grasp the accepted concepts and conventions that have been built up over time (in my case 5 years)
I also have to remember that I and the 'old timers' on the respective boards have become so used to the layout of the sites and where everything is that to a first arrival it can be overwhelming (even though they are as simplisticly and logically designed as possible). I can lose the rag (behind the screen) when someone doesn't even bother to search, and my search function is ridiculously easy, but then remember that sometimes people don't really always know how to phrase a search, or indeed, if it would be worth their while.
So that's the negatives, the positive side to the same questions being asked is that other 'newbies' get to know of issues that otherwise they would be ignorant of and perhaps would have put their foot in it as well!
I have learned a lot on here about this site's protocols through reading responses to posts that have generated this type of discussion. Being a newbie I rather feel for the ones who might ask a question that has been answered (I am sure I have!) but a little hand holding goes a long long way and encourages the newbie to contribute positively.
I now really enjoy this scene, and have to admit to have been a lurker for a while (and a greedy downloader) but woke up recently to the fact that these layouts we love so much are built by people, so I decided that I had to learn how it was done so I could contribute as well. It took me some time to launch myself because, to be very, very honest, I was a bit scared, especially after reading some posts in the past that just terrified me of some people on the site. I now understand where people are coming from, and I know that tempers flare because people can get very irritated indeed.
But there comes a point where you say do I send a post now, or do I wait ten minutes or so. I have had plenty cause on my sites in the past to rue the lack of a little bit of self checking before sending a torrential outburst at people on my sites. And I have had to do a lot of diplomacy between posters - some got so bad a few years ago that two people were actually going to meet up and physically tear each other to pieces. What I am saying is, we cannot see the smile, or the tone, or the person behind the posts. Words on a screen can look different than how you would hear them from someone's lips whilst in physical conversation - the words are all important, for depending on how used they can look biting, searing and angry, when in fact, the poster might just be a little annoyed and is trying to get a point across.
And to a newbie those words can look very threatening and intimidating.
Anyway, I am rambling again...
