At Deathclaw, that reply was aimed at DS, he was basically saying that the amber conversion of a layout I built in mfme was now guitars layout. I was just confirming that he meant that if anyone converts a layout onto amber without redoing any graphic work then its okay to call it their layout? Again, I'm not getting at Guitar, I just want to know the general consensus relating to mfme layouts and their conversion into amber.
I am working on a couple of bits in amber. I've been getting into the tools and have pretty much got it nailed, like you say there is major scope over mfme graphic manipulation wise, this is all I am really interested in to be honest. I would be interested in a way to apply a reel glass reflection, is this possible in amber, where do I need to look tool wise to be able to work on this?

There are alpha blended overlays in Amber already mate. That's why the Line Up's reel images are totally and utterly vanilla as I drew them. There's also the ability to add a fluorescent light
I will be adding all of this later. Right now we are working on the triacs so I can cut some sound samples. Not only will it have proper payout sounds (with the sound of the coin hitting the tray) but they will also be multiple. So for example, there will be the sound of a 10p hitting the emptry tray, then the sound of coins landing on coins and so on.
All really, really cool stuff. A layout can be properly made into an experience, instead of just a tiny small fruit machine on a screen.

Ok, cheers for the info. I just don't have the free time I once had with a lot of real life stuff going on over the past few years.

So you are implying that I can simply rip an mfme layout convert it into amber and it's my layout?
J
If you were a decent person then you would make it clear on release it is a conversion and thank the original creators. No one here other than the obvious ever did this to get Rich (well LMAO) we do it as we want to play old bandits.
If thanks isn't enough - don't do it
And for christs sake we are talking images here, ever try to code an EMU? Did Hans try to sell what took him countless hours\days to make?
All done for the good of the scene, and if your not here for that. Then leave.

Yes, maybe you are right about being into fme for the wrong reasons, but I certainly don't think there is a problem with protecting weeks and months of graphic work. I have no problem people using my base unlamped artwork but I do expect a layout designer to be able to create their own lamping and reels.

I believe it is just common courtesy to ask a layout creator if you can borrow their bits. This argument is as old as grass and involves the old locked layouts bullshit. To compare the FME members to Companies regarding copyright is plain stupid. It actually is a different set of rules for us as regards to them. (Apart from when Empire were 'in.') It costs money to copyright something and to think a FME member has gone the extra mile to do that is stupid so saying 'I don't want this I don't want that converting etc' is a) pointless and b) petulant.
I'm sure AT would have been all for allowing his stuff to run on Amber when he was in 'that' particular Inner Circle. It's the same old and to a certain degree DS is correct one man has caused more damage to this scene than the rest put together and in the main it was due to not getting his own way.
Oh just for the record no one really contacted the MAME coders regarding MFME, They had been keeping a long eye on the situation when other side projects from a couple of other emulators 'crossed-over.' So blaming an individual from DadsFME is complete inaccurate bullshit.....
Anyway back to the original point it's nice to be asked if your bits and pieces can be used but really it should be a given from a creators point of view that once a layout is released it should be considered free game, that is the opinion I have always had, after all every single one of us have broken some copyright law or other during our lifetime in FME land.

No I've never tried to code an emulator, none of this is relevant. Did someone take his emulator and just rename it and re-release it?

Correction to earlier post.
My hunch was right, after talking to a barrister mate of mine (is a yank, but actually not dumb) the art will be protected for upto 70 years under US law. This is likely something inherited from English common law so will be same or similar here. The technology though, is not protected nearly as well. Looking into that now.
Well maybe after pub, but ill find out.

No. They did not.
And you're correct, that's completely irrelevant. Time is time. If you use it it doesn't matter what you do with it, it's then gone.
So whether you're making artwork, doing a classic, making reels or simply sticking your fingers up your arse it's all time you don't get back.
Geddy.
You seem to have your information mixed up. Some one most certainly did contact the MAME devs. As to who? well I'll let him decide if he wants to make that information public. Personally I don't give a shit really. What's done is done.
Some one went to the MAME devs and alerted them to the fact that MFME was full of partial portions of MAME code. Once that was proven he had no choice but to release the source code.
Which given the type of person that he is would have pissed him off extensively.

Only after 1989. Anything before that was not covered unless you went out of your way to cover it. Take a look over a fruit machine and look for the copyright. You will usually find there isn't one, only mention of any patents. And those patents only really existed in the early days of electronic fruit machines and the technology, not the artwork.

The person who alerted MAME devs to MFME was erm a MAME dev. So in essence no one alerted MAME devs because they had people on both sides of the fence. MAME basically knew all along, or people connected with them did. I guess they were just biding their time to call Wizard out on it or when FME became more MAME relevant when Haze decided to fiddle with it.
However tbh all of that is a pointless argument because it killed 'nothing' as Wizard had already spat his dummy out numerous times prior to that and was not shown in good light by most members do to his hissy fit 'here is what you could have had' video...

So much shit here. I told MAME, and Chris NEVER released the code I LEAKED IT. As I was disgusted by how much he had stolen without any thanks or permission from MAME, when real coders did it from scratch or asked permission and gave thanks. Had we stolen as Chris had, well you would all be playing partytime now.
End off
Rest of your post is just shit and I CBA

No, it wasn't. Somebody from the FME scene purposely and deliberately contacted the MAME devs in order to crack the nut and get Chris to release the source code.
The answer to who? is actually quite obvious. Who would want the source code badly enough to do that.....
As I said, none of it matters now. It's been done, there's no going back. In the long run it was actually worth it. Chris always said -
There's no point in releasing the source code, no one would know what to do with it
Among others. Well, this time he was wrong.

you can't re-write history Dickwad. And I'd suggest for a couple of the admins here and some other insiders we stop this as Id love to tell the whole truth about this.

Is anything you say today going to make any sense?
You leaked the source code. Ages and ages ago. Why is it that you are taking a load of pointless and nonsensical rubbish from about ten years ago and trying to make it current? The stuff you are talking about happened eight years ago.
Since then much has happened that you obviously aren't aware of. Chris was forced legally to hand over the latest source code. Not that rubbish that you and I had access to back in 2004.
You seem to just be missing the point completely. To this discussion as well as pretty much everything else.

You're irrelevant to all of this. You're talking about shit that's years old, that has no relevance at all.
But hey, if you just want to sit here insulting people then be my guest. You're obviously in a very unstable and belligerent mood so just carry on as you wish.

As far as I'm concerned this thread can continue to run...
...provided that all members, even if they don't respect each other, respect ALL Fruit Emu members as a whole and remember their language aimed at other members personally.
Apart from that, I am quite enjoying this renewed FME vigour - keep the debate strong - but respectful please guys!

And old?
LOL If the real workings of those in the know was public. This place would be in deep shit as would a few others . Don't believe me? Try it. I've over a gig of text logs of chats from those times when some very prominent and nice people here actually told the truth for once.

Tutton does though, so he doesn't count.
He is welcome to insult me back.
