a computer can play almost any disc as it will either get mediaplayer to play it by default, or files like setup.exe will run via autostart.
CD and DVD discs are a totally different format and need to be converted. think of it as dragging a files to a CD to make a data disc, or using a program to make those mp3 files into a CDDA disc. the principle is the same for DVD and BLU-RAY discs, you cannt just copy them over, they need to be converted to a specific standard.
i use nero vision. quite literally either drag them over or click and add, and this will create a menu and convert them to the disc standard. on a hard drive base system i believe it took some 40-50 mins to copy and convert a whole 4.3gig file and then burn it off.
with my revodrive at some 900mb/s its nearer 20 mins for a full disc as it creates a whole image before it burns to the blank
hope this helps
