Each Way Nudger can be quite good fun.

Failing that, Spoof is another good one :)

Takes 2p/10p/50p, and pays out £2 worth of 10p when you win! Best sound in the world that is!!

Any Mpu 4 is worth having a look at....have a browse around Ebay for the occasional bargains....(thats just my own personal thing, MPU4)

Why not download a large selection of fruit machine roms and emulators, play them to get a feel of them. That way you will be able to find a game you like, with sounds that appeal, and good (to you) graphics.

Nothing worse than getting a fruity that you cant stand, or that bores you.

Whatever you get, you will probably get bored with it pretty fast, unless you get a clubber, or you change stake/percentage/jackpot now and again to get different gameplay.

Parts are another issue, older machines can be harder to get parts for, loads of mpu 4 and 5 parts on ebay - you would be a bit stuck if you got a mpu 2 or 3 machine....

Also older machines tend to be a little bit, well on the old side, so are likely to have more failures, dying caps, almost dead optos, looms that are so stiff the wires break when you sneeze etc... A workshopped machine is only as good as the person that workshopped it, and I bet many dont bother to put new looms, optos, caps etc in the machine....

Course on the other hand, newer machines tend to be very poorly made, plasticy cheap construction, no "quality" or "love" has gone into there design or building.

Get downloading, then find some favourites, then maybe ask again if anyone has any recomendations from your shortlist ;)

To be honest, if you have no real preference, I'd keep an eye on eBay, and look for machines in the 'PC & Video Gaming / Coin Operated / Fruit Machines' section, and buy a bargain that comes up :)

If you want something with a good trail, just look at the pictures that are given in the auction.

I'd say that an MPU5 machine made between 1996 and 2000 would probably go for up to £150 [although I have seen machines from 2000 going for £100], and in the case of a company like Bell Fruit, Mazooma or QPS, it isn't unusual to see machines made in about 2002 going for around £150.

I quite liked some of the BFMs from that era [Hells Bells, Diamond Mine], and some of the QPS ones from that era can be emulated [Dr Dough as an example, which has several clones also emulated].

Barcrest-wise if you don't mind a machine 5 years old, you can do a lot worse than :

Monty Pythons Flying Circus [one of my faves :D], also clones and similar machines - Arabian Nights, Magic Carpet [BWB?], Neptunes Treasure.

Spiker the Biker + BWB Smokey Bikin [heck if you are local you could always make me an offer for my Spiker :p],

The Jackpoteers,

Ooh Aah Dracula [the BWB version is emulated, the Barcrest version isn't]

King Kebab [also a clone called BWB Donna Kebab]

Codfather

Frenzy and Psycho Cash Beast, although I hate them personally :p

Sheik Yer Money

Most of the above have been on eBay recently and sold for around £100, with the exception of Codfather, sometimes even not getting a bidder at £100 - and they are some of the more entertaining MPU5 machines IMHO - they are about 5 or 6 years old but TBH age isn't that much of an issue on them - MPU5 spares are very easy to come by and the machines are pretty easy to work on IMHO.

Thats just a short list obviously, there are loads more machines but those are ones that I think would make reasonable home use machines and will leave you with plenty of cash to fill them up with :)
