Resizing my layout art for future usage does it affect quality?

Best Answer ady, 21 December 2015 - 04:05 PM

Simple reply is..........of course you'll loose quality!

But you have used enough flyers surely of 5mb that has produced some nice layouts!............that's ample......just keep as a BMP.

Can you not just burn your original stuff (you have) to Disc for future needs....future needs I did.....but make sure you write in the CD's/DVD's themselves !!

I have so many Disc's here, I know some have some required stuff on....but I load something in my reader and all I see to date is Pic's that are non-FME that i'm glad I found lol

The last 50 or so layout's I've filed the original
Bmp Artwork I have lit the on/off artwork before the last resize for 1024's. They're normally approx 7500x12500pixels before reducing I have kept these in case anyone required these for a bigger res layout or if myself wanted to do em bigger(1600wdx) in the future.
Now each of these come in at around 350mb's plus so take up a fair bit of memory. Now the question is if I resize every artwork I have to a smaller size would they lose quality if I enlarged them again on the future? What size would be deemed to small I was thinking of around the size I use now I.e 700x1200 so a good tenth of what i have now making them approx 5mbs in size.

It's not often Ady and me agree on anything lol, but we do on this!

In fact tbh I can't really see why you needed to ask the question, stick them all on discs, check that discs work, label them up, store safely, then remove from your HDD, job done  :spinny:

This also makes them safe for the future, should your lappy go tits up

Or if you don't want discs every where pick up an external HD as prices on these are coming down.

This is another option, I seem to be addicted to them, got 5 atm lol.

But these can also go tits up, so if it's something that's not going to be used for ages, probs better on discs

all sorted resized the 7500x12500 artworks to approx. 2000x4500 basically a 3rd of the size still plenty big enough for a 1280/1600 hopefully.

what size artwork is needed for the biggy 1600layouts

You need a vertical resolution of 1098 pixels for 1600 DX's.  So you just need to resize any artwork that is bigger than that to the same vertical resolution (1098) whilst keeping 'Lock Aspect Ratio' on.  So the width will resize properly as well.
