Hi again fella's hope you are all still good...

Have another question for all you guys that know a bit about cars ?

Need a new car basically and went to see one today , had a test drive , everything was cool ... 04 plate Puegot 206 with less than 45k miles done..

However during the test drive i noticed the engine managment light was on .. when i pointed this out he said .. " oh thats nothing to worry about , its just detecting more emmisions coming from the engine than there should be " eh... i mean the engine isnt mixing the fuel together properly , its not taking in enough air...and giving out higher emmisions...if you had driven it longer it would have gone off...

Ok...i thought ,, havent ever heard of this ? but me knowing as much about cars as nuclear physics i took his word for it...said id probably pick it up later in the week..( a few bits needing done ) ...

Should i steer well clear of this ... is it anything to worry about , dont want to buy it then have to get it towed to a garage 3 days later and be £500 out of pocket .. or whatever...

Any advice/answers would be greatly appreciated ... Cheers lads.   :)

Its a matter of trust really I suppose. but I'd try and get it to a garage for a diagnostics check to see what error codes show up as It could be something serious.  Having said that I drove my last Astra with engine management light permanently on but that was just a small vacuum leak which didn't really effect performance.

My old 206, I ran out of fuel, that put that light on and it stayed on.

Mine was a 1.4 diesel, cheap tax and nearly 700 miles to a full tank!

If it was a diesel then it would be DPF related.

Citroen always end up with the engine management light coming on,normally just a duff sensor in the engine. You can hook up to a diagnotics computer and it will find no fault, switch off EML and it comes back on within hours, seen this loads of times with french cars.

knock some off the asking price then hope it's something very simple. If that were a vw, vag-com via laptop and cable for any error codes like I do with my ford galaxy vw engine and gearbox.

Llambarda (sp) sensors?  Mine had an engine management light on for that for years, issue is a garage can turn the light off ready for a sale but it will just come back on after a few miles.  I would get it checked, it could be what he says but it could be something serious.

i had exactly the ame problem with my 206. basically its an emmision sensor. their is a filter fitted to the exhaust thats probably gone rock hard. i just got it crushed up an bit and everything was fine. bit like one of thoese kettle de fur things. when it goes hard you crush it and the scale comes off.

not saying its the same problem but thats how i fixed mine. its true you shouldnt be worried about it, but its quite poor of them not to fix it.

Thanks for all the advice guys , picking the car up tomorrow .. told him i wasn't happy about the light being on and he said dont worry ill sort that , although i think its just the o2 sensor...if it needs changed ill do it.

Never had a car for years and years with my illness i couldnt drive , when i got my license back got a wee heap of crap , when that died i just had to get another one..you dont realise how much you rely on them..
