Thanks done that, now I get "could not initiate direct x 11 message

Do you even know if your graphics are DirectX 11 capable?

If you are still having problems, then list your laptop/computer specs, particularly the graphics card, or even a laptop model number.

A lot of people are having trouble, because unlike MFME, which will run on a 15 year old + device, running the very first versions of directx, Amber requires up to date cards released in the past few years and then, not all cards supported.

Depending on the specs of your comp you may just need an updated graphics card that will run direct x 11

I bought an ATI Radeon 6450 from CEX I think I paid about £18, and just downloaded the drivers off the net.

Yeah, the only prerequisite is DX11, it doesn't matter how old the card is, just whether the hardware supports DX11 or not, I'm not exactly taking the gfx card to the max with a 2D program.

Can I ask, do you get flickers in Amber2 where a triangle will suddenly draw bigger than it should or any other artifacts? I develop it with an Ati 6xxx series and I get a few issues with it, but I believe the card may be on its way out. Gonna get a GTX 1080 when money allows.

Same for a few others because of their graphic card

Did you read the above quote? because that's what the problem probably is, like a few folks having the same errors.

Finally got this running today after buying a new graphics card, as said above the card must support DX11 or it won't run, having DX11 installed is not enough, if you run dxdiag check the DDI version number in the display tab, (see screenshot above), that will tell you if it's 11 capable or not, if it shows 10.1 or something similar you will get the errors. it must show 11. If your card is o.k. and you are still getting errors reinstall NET framework https://www.microsoft.com/net/download

Hope that's some help to someone.

Forgot to say, many thanks to Guitar for all the hard work that went into this, it's a shame some can't run it yet but it gives you a good reason to upgrade your machine.

So does this mean I should be able to run Amber2 then if I ever decided I wanted to?

I don't think it will work on that spec Chasnbons.  The motherboard only supports DirectX10, it's always worth trying it.  The motherboard most probably has space for a PCIe graphics card if not.

Ah ok, I was going by it saying directx version 11 at the bottom.

No matter though as I wasn't planning on trying it, I just wondered after posted how to check.

Do you get any other errors, or just that one? DX12 is backwards compatible with 9, 10, & 11. You don't need to go back one. I would assume either the layout file, or roms aren't in the right place and or haven't been extracted properly.
