I read today page21 in the sun newspaper that players are snubbing pub fruits in favour of fobts as basically because of this revenues have halved since 2000.
So what do they intend to burn this trend I hear you ask??
They (bacta) want to put up the stake and prize ratio to £2 s spin and £150jp!!!
Yes I'm sure that'll work, not!!
Can't they figure it out that since the end of playable, entertaining £25 jps in pubs and the introduction of £100/£1 fruits people or should I say casual punters just don't and can't afford to throw their change into a bottomless pit.
Where as fobts will always make loads due to em being in a major gambling environment and at upto £100 a pop are easy money for the bookies

I don't really think that's a surprise, more and more players have turned away from them, because AWP's just play the same way, with a DOND feature.

 

I remember when the £500 jackpots came out, my mate after years of playing everything from £2 jackpots upwards, just said, why do I want to play to win £25 (which was the jackpot at the time I believe), when I can win £500. We used to play AWPs all the time, until he discovered them and then he wouldn't bother with AWPs.

 

I would imagine a lot of people have the same attitude.

 

Where as AWPs have been static for the past 10 years with no real fresh ideas, since DOND, £500 machines have evolved. At first, they were pretty bog standard and boring, but the very occasional time I play in the bookies on the FOBT, the machines are far more advance and in a lot of cases, even have more about them and of course if you win, can be much more entertaining, than the £4000 jackpot machines in the casinos (in particular the Novomatic rubbish in UK casinos). They also have far more attractive graphics and sounds to entice the player.

 

Of course, none of this has changed my attitude, gambling is a mugs game, unless you have a sure fire way of making money from it.

I think also that many punters see so many players,stalking the pubs and arcades and get put off by them.

In Blackpool there are loads of watchers with the slots,moving from arcade to pubs and bingo halls-almost like a work rota!

So sad in my eyes but they clearly they  know no different.

Reflecting on some of your points Vectra-re increase in stake/prize,I in part disagree that it would not attract people. When the £500's were increased to £2 play,many thought it would not work and players would be put off-quite the opposite!!. The £2/£500 keep many arcades alive and ticking over.

I'm sure countless members on here have stopped at services and seen the growing number of arcades. Even big names(to name a couple, quicksilver and novomatic) are now merging into,what once was a very small market.

Ive seen many truck drivers glued to the slots,sometimes playing 2/3 x £500 at a time-!!. Many of the slots are similar if not the same as the bookies slots.

I suppose it's part boredom for them but also I can imagine many get hooked too.

You make a valid point re the £25 slots but sadly the industry will never go back.

If only it would re amusement arcades and turn back the arcade clock 20-30 years!!!

Another point to reflect upon is the the number of pubs,night clubs,bingo halls and sadly working men's clubs that are closing daily.

The new going out does seem to be staying in and I do believe the rise of online gambling as played a huge part in this.

I do wonder what the sea fronts and Town Centre's across Great Britain will look like in 20 years from now.

I know if my local coastal town- Blackpool,does not get the investment(it is crying out for),that many owners on the sea front will pack up and never be seen again.

Off topic Vectra,it will be interesting to hear back from members who live close to the coast as to how things have changed in the last 20 years near to them.

thats why some of test machines i.e star paws betcoms juggling jackpots treasure island jackpots have got decals for the jackpot win so they can be changed to 150 easy enough

Pubs have only got themselves to blame its not all about the stakes / prizes.

 

Pubs have been known to:-

 

Kick you out for winning even some smaller amounts esp if it wasn't your local.

Not having change available ( not as much as a problem these days with noteys etc )

Staff playing them after closing

Just having an attitude towards players in general

Run them as low as 78% ( again maybe not more recently )

 

Loads more I cant be bothered to list!

 

 

Stakes hasn't helped either of course if you have a couple of quid change it would take you longer to walk to the machine than to play it for your change.

 

25p 30p  era at least you get a little more time actually in front of it  lol

Wouldn't know, not been in a pub for years (too expensive), let alone play a Fruit Machine. Heaven Seven was the last one I played in a pub!!!!!!

i think the last time i majorly played a slot in a public house was when the £25 jp wasout so yr 2000'ish

the locals that hang about blackpool have no shame they unplug machines when your on the top board come up to you and ask how much you have put in n even 1 local pretended he worked in the arcade and told me they where shutting and to put no more money in hotstuff after a put £3 in without a board lol.

Pub fruits are a bit of a joke now they are on £100, no game play at all as we know. I can see another increase in jackpots in the future which would not be the right move.

 

I've always wondered if a pub with 4 machines or more would do better with a couple on £100 jackpot, and a couple on £35, £70 or even £25 ... Obviously this would never happen but might encourage the more casual player to have a go, far more entertaining on a lower jackpot, would actually feel like a fruit machine !!

 

Also I can definitely see an increase in the arcades to £1,000, surprised it hasn't been done already.

It's not so much the jackpots for me, it's the mad amount of money for a spin.

 

I remember playing 10p £100 jackpot machines 20+ years ago and they were fun - a Jackpot was very rare. 20p/25p £200 was also fine.

 

£5 a spin is just nuts and a massive barrier to entry so carrying on along this path will eventually see the end of fruities in the pub...

And the arcade happily let him play the 3 -hardly gona stop him are they.

But then we hear constantly that gambling institutions are there now to advice us when they think we may be going too far with gambling!

When I was still actively playing, £50 mega spins were firmly in, in the bookies.

There's at least one guy on youtube, who selects £50. Slots, seems to either award a certain amount of spins or you get a feature chance and pays are 5 times. Sometimes, it can be 2 spins for your £50 and it's over in less than 10 secs.

 

Very frightening, I don't even like going over £1 a spin in the casino.
