Just received a call on my landline from an overseas gentleman called " Jack Williams ",

he informed me that he was a security manager working for Windows and my computer was infected by a program that can access my online banking account.

He asked me to switch on my laptop and read out my IP address and passwords (yeah right), so I made a cup of tea and told him I was at the computer, gave him a false IP address, he then asked me for my password, at this point I said..

I'll give you my password if you give me your security ID number so my police officer wife can verify it.

His voice changed from polite to aggressive, with the reply. "Mother f..ker".

I know most people on this site are quite savvy when it comes to this type of scam, however we all know someone who is vulnerable, so please tell as many people as you can.

Thanks.

M

yeah it happens to everyone, i myself have a few calls every day, 2 already from mobile numbers which were pre recorder ppi messages, i add everyone to my reject list on my Android but these f***ers have several numbers, im wondering if there is a limit to the amount of numbers you can add to the reject list because i must have well over 100 so far and still they come via text or phone call, government doesn't do enough about this IMO.

I used to get calls like this on a daily basis, or at least it seemed like it (thanks Virgin for selling my details on!)

Myself, preferring the more direct approach they only ever get a 14 word reply from me before I hang up......

DO YOU THINK I'M STUPID? THIS IS SO OBVIOUSLY A SCAM.............. F**K OFF C**T

Strangely I don't seem to get half as many nowadays as I used to  :err:

A few years ago I bought a gas powered air horn (England Football thingy) which is blasted down the phone when one of these arses calls. Think poundland still sell them.

If they ring my mobile and it is unknown number or number withheld, i let it go to voice mail, which is

" I don't know who you are and I don't know what you what. If you are a genuine caller please leave message after the tone. If however you are a scammer or you're trying that PPI shit on me,let me tell you this. I will find you and I will kill you. Goodbye. (in my best Liam Nielson voice).

If anyone from B.T. rings, ask them for their E.I.N (Engineering Identification Number). When I worked for B.T. we all had an individual E.I.N, to prove our identity. BT Sub Contractors (i.e. callers on behalf don't have an E.I.N.) so they will have to prove otherwise. If they are genuine they should have details of your account no, start asking them questions to prove who they are.

I found a way of getting rid of the Microsoft Windows scammers, just answer all their questions with a reply of "Turnip". They get really angry and aggressive. Ha Ha Ha!!!!!!!!

Don't come round and steal my Cheerios !!!!

Not quite on the scammer topic but I'm remonded of the genius that is Tom Mabe and his dealing with cold callers...

If you've not heard of him, this is worth a listen...

Heh, you lot want to see what gets listed at 419eater.com, and the scam-bating tactics some folks use to exact their revenge, like getting the mugu robbing a-holes to post pic's of em holding bits of paper with the words arse-bandit on em :D

On a side note, I did get this live PPI style call a few months back, which resulted me in the space of 30mins, either saying "who are you?", or farting quite hard (I had a wiffy bum all day after drinking some potent real ale day previous), with the latter finally working to get the twat to hang up. :)

I love this site (419eater.com) so many brilliant baiters on there. Seems a lot of them are now UK based and it is so much easier to bait them. Shame the police don't use the website to trap, charge and deport these arse bandits.

I was watching an old QI last night, it related to scams.

They mentioned the "you have won $4.000.000" kind of letter Ones, and that 'speeling' mistakes are actually put in on purpose.

The reason they gave was 'the less intelligent' are more likely to fall for it.....cruel I know, but it makes some kind of sense to me.

Just do what i do,put phone on loud speaker, sit back and listen to some arsehole chatting shite. Just add the occasional yeah or mmm for good measure. Works better with brokers, hype em up let them think they have a sale in the bag,at the last minute just say nah changed my.mind.

I was getting the same, so i installed a cool app called " should i answer" on my sony xperia c4.

and blocked  all numbers that are NOT in my contact list.

no more pesky phone calls now. i'm not too sure if it works on all phones though.
