At some point, in the near future, we are going to have to upgrade the site forum software to the latest version of IP.Board.

Although I have put this off for as long as possible, it's now impossible to fix some of the bugs and important features of the current software, as the publishers no longer support this version.

The new version is a complete ground upwards rewrite, this is good in many ways as this current version is now very much out of date, and a rewrite was well overdue. Unfortunately it does mean that any third party modifications and additions will stop working. This will impact upon the appearance and functionality of the site, at least in the short term. It may be possible to reinstate some of the features in the future, but this cannot be guaranteed.

Rest assured that all forum content, downloads, subscriptions and other essential data and content will be transferred over.

More information to follow.

Will it make the site more mobile phone friendly? At the moment the home page is very garbled on a smartphone.

No probs, what's got to be done has to be done to secure the sites future and safety etc.

Yes, it should fix the intermittent display problems on mobile devices.

At the moment I often choose to switch to desktop view, but I realise that's not always possible when the template is garbled.

Cheers Alex, there are a few niggles with the email notification system at DADsFME so hopefully they'll be sorted too.

I did get some undeliverable messages for a signup for DADS, but that's probably at server level and won't be affected by the forum upgrade here. I'll ask Pete when I next speak to him.

Some months on, although I've been putting this off due to the expected disruption I can do so no longer.

The company that makes the software will not be updating or fixing bugs in the future on the version that we're currently using, meaning that the site could be left vulnerable to attack. Therefore I'm sure you can all understand that the upgrade is now necessary.

It will be taking place this week, I don't know exactly when. There will probably be some downtime but hopefully it will be minimal.

Updates will follow when and if possible...

Hi Aaamusements, I love the site, I'd hate it to be attacked and hacked into, and I would love it to stay. Keep doing what you need to do (there's no need to be grumpy about it,) but there is 1 big problem! ... I've forgotten my password!!!!!! If the site software upgrades, the page usually comes up, "Sign in". Half the time I can remember the password but it's been years and years since I last logged in. Otherwise I just use the keep me signed in checkbox for quickness.

Hi Aaamusements, thanks for the info. Totally understand the situation and that the support to the software will cease and upgrade will be necessary. Good Luck with the upgrade.

B.T.W... I am in the same situation as 'I have finished' on the subject of forgetting my password. The browser (Firefox) I'm using, fills it in automatically, however I wish to visit this site on my other Pc's and tablets. Also there could be a chance I might not be able to log on again after the update. Is there anyway I can sort this please. Many thanks.

in firefox goto the options tab (top right hand corner of firefox browser. its 3 horizontal lines) click on......"options"........."security".........and click on "saved logins" and then click on "saved passwords" scroll down to the fruit emu url and the password will be there at the end of the url.

this will work for all your saved logins for firefox.

:)
