Something I have been thinking about recently, for example I play two of the "exact" same machines, one in one arcade, one in another, both set to the same %. I don't know if it's just a coincidence but has anyone noticed or know if 2 "exact" same machines can have different programs? For example one machine will be like £20 in and £10 out all the time, the other same machine, same % will save up for huge streaks, seems like there are no 2 machines that are the same? I'm just confused lol.

Probably different programs.
You can also get single site programs for pubs etc and arcade programs.

I know that there are different variations of 'ROMs' when they were made (maybe updates) I was trying to think of an example, but a good example is Adders and Ladders arena. (On the £5jp version) On one version, credit takes as you press the start button, the other takes credit after the reels have spun. The second one that I mention plays tighter (IMO) than the other.

To be fair, unless they open the machine, you don't actually know what the machine is set to, it could display '78%' on display, but be set to 70%, visa-versa. Also, what the machines 'current' % is at! An arcade in Blackpool opened a few years ago and they set their machines really high (in this case Carousel was at 88%) 2 years later, dropped it to 82%. 82% is still respectful, but not it its clawing back the money (they don't reset if you change the percentage). Saw this through the glass.

I have an Empire Tomb Raiders, and is set to 78%, but is playing much less (about 64%) and never goes on one.

Ah right I see, all makes sense now thanks to you guys. I have just been playing Space Raiders and noticed there is no option to gamble the mystery, I could of sworn you could gamble the mystery on all the ones I have played in the wild, have you guys played Space Raiders in the wild? If correct then is this what you guys mean by different programs? I'm not slating the emulation in the slightest I promise, I am literately just wondering :)

Usually a game comes out and will have software updates applied to it as it moves through site test and into general release, to the get the game right and fix bugs.  So by now you might be on version 7.04 of the software, but some operators might keep theirs on version 4.03 for example as they are not experiencing any issues.  Then sometimes an arcade chain will ask for a specific build of the game which has a different profile or inhibits certain game elements and so on, just for their players.

Thanks so much for all the replies honestly. I've noticed on the latest MFME5 releases that they are "Version 1", is that in regards to the ROM version (again big thanks to you guys for answering and explaining my question here, I understand the whole different programs scenario now) or does that just apply to their version of the release, like is every uploaded ROM on here Version 1?

For example, DOND 4 Reeler set on £5 Jackpot seems to have a flat program to it, £10 for £5 continuously and then it seems to occasionally take £20 for a Jackpot Repeat, then back to square one, so maybe that is the very first program? I think most 4 reelers on £5 I have played do not even round up the wins, so, different version?

I sincerely promise you I am not complaining about the emulations trust me, they give me endless and always will give me endless amounts of entertainment, I am literately just wondering and I really do apologise for questioning every single detail, I am a nightmare with things like that!

4 Reeler is an early rom, all my layouts I use the earliest rom we have for most fun.

But £5 Bellfruits in general tend to be lump, Look at Quazzi Mo Dough by QPS, on an £8 jackpot set to 80% that will take £10 and payout a jackpot, or take £20 & give a jackpot repeat, that is one of the worst ways i've seen a machine programmed.

The version numbers on layout releases are for the actual layout, not the software.  If the designer updates a layout to fix a mistake or make an improvement then the version number will also change.  It's just a way of documenting versions.

Bell Fruit did two versions of DOND 4-reeler.  The first started out as a £25 jackpot machine with a single pound hopper and was designed with the new £35 jackpot and 50p stake in mind.  Later they got converted to £5 jackpots and the wins round up to £1, cherries are 50p.  Gameplay is harsh - £8 for a board which flies up to jackpot sort of thing.

The other version was Classic DOND which was a dedicated £5 jackpot machine with a 10p hopper added, specifically for arcades.  The gameplay is quite different and the cherries are 20p and the wins don't round up.  Much more friendly, softer game :)  I would expect there to be a layout for this version at some point if the ROMs are available.

So it's purely down to the ROMs that the layout is using, and whether that game had lots of different versions of software.  The emulation side of it will always be pretty much spot-on.

Thanks Steve, great information there, have you had any luck with getting the £5 Jackpot 4 Reeler to streak? It is exactly as you describe, constantly £8 for a board and then a flat Jackpot lol, I'm currently at £316 in with £200 out, I must be wrong in thinking that these do a Go All The Way Run for like £50 odd, I know for a fact that Walk Of Wealth do Go All The Way Runs, this one just seems to be flat as a pancake, maybe the non rounding version streaks? I will keep trying haha and thanks big time again for the information.

Honestly the amount of times I have been brainwashed into thinking a machine is due to streak due to having a streak from the "same" machine and no matter how much I keep chasing, it just doesn't, it all makes sense now thanks to you guys knowing about the different programs and emulating, I would still be going out to play the same machine, still chasing for the streak I had in the past, without knowing I am playing a completely different program lol

The Classic DOND variant has a £30-£40 streak in it (Go all the Way every board).  I don't know about the round pound version on £5 jackpot but I would imagine it does because all Bell Fruit do on these £5 software conversions of pub machines is just cut everything down.  Probably goes for £50-£60 when you get it.  I think you'll need to play a lot more than £316 through though to get it, and you can't force it either.
