Why on some machines the side art wont remove & you end up with half a machine if you try to pull the side across?.

Thanks.

Use edit mode first. Then save layout.

I've seen that issue, not sure I understand why that happens yet, but you can work around it by going into Edit mode and Right mouse click on the background art, select Properties and change the width setting

If you want to close the sideart off, without deleting it, you can do so by going into preferences and unchecking shrink to fit.

It will depend on the size of the layout and your screen resolution though. For instance I have a 1920*1080 display, so anything pre v5, that wasn't 1600*1200 or 1920*1200, I simply load in and then with shrink to fit off, I close the artwork off, by dragging from the right hand side. V5 remembers the state of the layout, so next play, the side art will be closed off.

If the layout does have a height of over 1080, then I have been using the above method mort posted. This is because, with shrink to fit off, I get scroll bars and with it on, you can't close it by dragging the windows from the right to close it.

I've also found some layouts, released pre v5 (in some cases 10 years or more ago) with shrink to fit checked, only load in half the machine, even if the layout res was smaller than 1920*1080. If you try to drag down or across to resize it, it just makes the half machines, larger. If you have shrink to fit off, then you can drag the borders to make the whole layout visible. Once again, once closed, V5 remembers the state, so will load it in properly next time.

or edit it on the big screen by putting a button in the layout say near the machine buttons then pm the layout to a fellow member, then you can re-download it via tablet

Try right clicking in edit mode. Window size select max res then drag the window to were you want it.

Thanks for this tip, very useful for mega sized dx's. A lot easier to close off artwork and other bits and pieces than having to muck about with heights and widths.
