Hi all

I have a barcrest pacman powerup that has has been working great for over a year until tonight.

I went to switch it on and it didnt boot up apart from the cashpot sign at the top..when i opened it up it was saying mpu battery low

Here is a video of it

Is this an easy fix? bare in mind i am useless at things like this and if it involves solder etc i know it will be out of my depth.

Thanks all for any help

Chris

When was the last time you had the machine switched on for a decent period of time, 2 hrs plus?

Can only guess that the battery has/is failed/failing or if they use a rechargable battery,a transistor on the charging cct has become leaky...

If you don't know what you are doinf electronically, i guess the only option is to source a working mpu6 and have the program (rom) written to it.

I actually have the rom.. Could it be OK if I left it on for few hours?

If it is rechargable, it should charge back up ok.

I suspect (never having used MPU6) it is the same as mpu5 with a coincell (non-rechargable) battery that has to be changed.

Edit, MPU6 is a 3v lithium battery, so i presume it is a coincell (similar to the one in a car remote fob), so i am guessing it has to be replaced.

Someone more familiar with mpu6 will be able to advise you better.

If it is coincell, leaving it overnight will make no difference as the battery is non-rechargeable.

The battery will look similar to this i think. (The ones you have in your link are re-chargable)

http://www.ebay.co.u...fQAAOSw4A5YvMqt

It will have legs on the one on the mpu6 and be soldered into the board. You will have to get the exact number from the old one and source a replacement.

Unless you change the mpu6, i doubt you will need the rom re-flashing to the unit you have, just changing the battery.

Like i say, these are too new for me at this time, i think i have given all info i can give.

Good luck.

Fairly certain MPU5 used a lithium coincell of the type which IS rechargeable?

You probably will yes. Unfortunately I'm not particularly familiar with MPU6 construction.

MPU6 uses a CR2032 Lithium coin cell battery which is not rechargeable:

Thank you for the confirmation. Very different to the setup in MPU5 then. And very quick and simple to replace.
