Back at the dentist now, thankfully it appears she was right, since filling the tooth, the pain went completely.

So now in 2 minds whether to do anything further than fill it properly again.

From my own experience i would never have a root canal ever, or recommend one after most people i know have had issues with them, very expensive, ages in the chair and can often not work fully plus can still be very painful after and possible have to have it out anyway!

 

At 47 im happy to lose the tooth if its beyond a filling, sod trying to keep it via root canal. Teeth cant hurt when they gone.

 

 

Just my 2 pence worth.

Cheers, yeah, I decided for now to do nothing to upset it. I need to go back in 4 months to see how things are progressing. The temp filling, is still firmly in place, so she I could keep it that way, until we decide more in a few months.

I've had 6 and they've all lasted - I was fortunate to be able to pay for them to be done privately which, whilst not guaranteeing they'll be fine, does make a difference.

 

Eventually the root fills (and the crown that goes on top) will fail but that can take years. Then you can either go for a bridge or an implant although these really are expensive!!

Same tooth causing me pain again. So like last time, waiting to ring the dentist again this morning, to hopefully see them as an emergency.

 

My own fault really  I should have gone back in October, but as the temp filling was holding firm and no pain, didn't really think about it. Filling has been out again though for a while now, but keep saying to myself, I'll go next time I've a few days off work, but then something else comes up  .

 

Worse than last time and only managed a couple of hours   last night, after dulling the pain, using Paracetamol, Ibuprofen and Orajel Extra Strength.

Got an abscess 3 week ago cost me £320 to have ut drained. (Private dentist) absolute robbery! You will pay anything to get rid of 5he pain though.

Yep, true, you'll pay anything to get rid of the pain.

 

Managed to see my dentist, start of an infection and some decay in the tooth. Decided to have the tooth out........but despite 3 injections, I had massive pain as she was trying to take it out and she couldn't move it, so she had to leave it.

 

So got some antibiotics and she's put some nerve killing agent in it and dressed and filled again and need to be referred to have it taken out.

 

She reckons that painkillers should see my through, until the infection is killed off.

 

At the moment still in pain, from all the pushing and pulling of the tooth.

Seems drastic to pull it though - I'd have looked at a root fill and crown. Keeps the tooth and lasts years... Expensive mind...

 

Eventually they collapse and you're in the realms of bridges and implants...

Cost isn't in issue, I have a medical plan with work.

This is now about the 4th time I've had trouble with the tooth and she said root canal will not necessarily sort it out permanently either.

I guess I can still change my mind though as these referrals quite often take a few months.

At the moment painkillers getting rid of the pain completely for a good few hours, so hopefully by the weekend with the antibiotics as well,the pain will be gone and the infection killed off completely.

Dentures, my nan years ago had all her teeth out, in 2 sessions, top one week bottom the next. She said dentures were a lot less hassle.
