I don't think we have any roms for Billy The Quid, there may be a flashcard set but they don't run in the current emulator. (I believe this was released on Epoch/One Stop & Scorpion 4)

Billy the Quid Rides Again is Epoch.

Any pictures of these 2 machines?

Are all Cool Games, unavailable. I'm thinking of aggravating machines like Bucks Bunny. Would be good, to see how they play without risking real money.

If it is on a Flash i am guessing it is Eclipse and isn't emulated.

A decent picture of the machine would be good.

It is Eclipse, yes. Wizard said he has no immediate plans to emulate Eclipse, but I might if there's more than 1 romset. I've got some resources for eclipse.

I'll take a look at it once I get the emulator complete for IMPACT, MPU4, & Epoch. I'm working on the lamping at the moment. Had a breakthrough last night, just putting a test together to see if I can finally get the expected values out of the filament simulations.

I presume Eclipse is very similar to Epoch?

If so why 2 mpu variants very similar?

The quick version...

David Powell created Eclipse which is the full tech with a video card slot, flash card capability, and other extra's.

Maygay said it was too expensive (or something similar) and wanted a cheaper option.

He then did a budget cut down version which is Epoch. I assume the fact it was produced for a budget is the reason it was such a failure in terms of reliability.

Edit to add. One has a Hiatchi H8/3002 CPU, and the other has a Hitachi H8/3008 CPU, which is close enough to make it a doddle to convert, but not quite close enough to boot Eclipse games in the Epoch emulation.

Thanks for the info.... I don't think Epoch i unreliable.

I have had an Epoch machine for years. They are only unreliable if the battery leaks onto the mpu and the original psu is not doctored.

Do you leave it on 12 hours a day? Or just turn it on when you want it? Home ownership is a much lower duty cycle and therefore things don't tend to overheat. The solder on some of the original lamp boards used to get so hot the transistors fell off the board in arcade use.

ETA: Not to mention, when it's competition is the bombproof MPU5, it was unreliable in the eyes of the operators.

No, it ain't on 12hrs a day but i reckon it is knocking on and it must have seen some long up time service in it's day.

Tbh, it has a mk2 psu card and mk2 lampboard in it so those upgrades may help.

Bombproof mpu5's are starting to fail more and more regularly now they are getting older.......

MPU5 has now been superceeded by MPU6, so it's obselete and doesn't matter if it starts to fail.

Besides, in industry, Epoch had the perception of being unreliable, whether that's true or not, perception of the customers is everything.

Hopefully Eclipse will be emulated in the future as I finding more and more Eclipse based games. Some are released on Epoch but i don't have the sounds for the Epoch version but they will be part of the Eclipse file.

If you want to post a set of ROMs that you have for eclipse, that we need sound for epoch, I may be able to strip the sounds out of eclipse and create an epoch set of sound ROMs, they both use the same sound chip.

If you have a game on epoch and eclipse with the sound roms, it would be useful if you can post both of them too for comparison purposes.
