I have just plugged the machine in after sometime of being switched off, AL appears on the display and it starts screaming something like "get it out"
Anyone have any ideas what the problem is with it

It'll be check it out, to alert the arcade/pub staff something is up.
As to what it is, could be one or more of many things. If you've an alarm code and/or more details like exactly when it alarms, I.E immediately or as the reels spin or after they spin, it'll probably give those who know some clue as to what it is.

Do you know where I would find the alpha display the only thing I can see is on the front above the wheels which says AL
It happens when I plug it in there is power cos green lights come on at the back at the side of a black box the wheels don't spin though

The alpha display should be above the reels.

"no characteriser" does anyone know what this means.
Thanks for the help already

I know you are probably sick of me asking questions now and you will be tearing you hair out after all you are trying to help and I am just very trying
But
Where is the Rom Card I have taken a black box out of the back behind the reels and it contains lots of chips on a circuit board but can find anything that looks like a card in a reader am I anywhere close to finding it
Sorry I know I sound thick but I bought this to play at home not to train to be a repairer of fruit machines
Many thanks in advance.

The rom cartridge is plugged into the MPU5 motherboard. It's fits flat so can't see it being fitted incorrectly. You should be able to see a couple of plastic retainers that lock it into place, you pinch them to release the cartridge. Was the game working previously? Are these different software roms? It's likely you have software that isn't compatible with the CHR protection chip on the cart.

I don't think this machine had a flash memory, it will be EPROM, the smaller cart that fits into the bigger MPU5 motherboard contains the software and CHR chip.
You can crack them open, post a pic up, it's hard to know what you have there without any pics of the eproms.

Battery is inside the mpu5.

Don't you need a ram clear chip or something on these if the battery is changed due to being flat.
Hold the bells mate.

Don't be saying that now just found the battery it's bad enough that it's souldered in going to have to get someone to do that for me when I find where to buy a battery from
If I change the battery and put it all back together will it just start up again
Does anyone know why it has a battery can I just remove it or does it have to have one in.

I wouldn't bother getting a new battery.
Just buy another MPU5 off eBay and try that.
If it was working fine before this problem then it may sort it for you.
