Just looking at ploggy's latest wip thread and wondered if anybody anywhere knows if there is such a thing as a 'retro' arcade if all these mid 80's early 90's machines?

I know in Brighton we used to have the Penny place with the old 1d's which gave a prize of a packet of Polo's etc (and I remember that for real too!!) and the proper One armed bandits, but that's not what i'm asking....I mean all the old MPS's, sys1's and JPM's etc that MFME2 has given us.

Cannot see it being a massive business, but there may be a madhatter willing to try.

I know it's not what you're asking but down in Bournemouth they have a retro arcade near the Sea Life centre. Real old machines, on old currency. Jennnings one armed bandits, a '4 square' and 'honest joe'. Win up to 4 old pennies or a bar of chocolate. Also a 'Sooty and Sweep' show for a mere 2 old pennies. Trade decimalised currency for the old stuff.

I've often thought that if ever I'm infinitely rich and have more money than I care think about, I shall open a 'anti-Slotto- arcade. Everything will be hi-techs from the 80's, 90's and 00 (noughties)'s on 98% MINIMUM payout. It'll be a labour of love. I'll have the same sort of overheads to pay but it'll be ALL YOUR FAVOURITE CLASSICS on really high %s.

In real life you have to make do with scratting around. Rugby Shipleys USED to have up until quite recently that very old BFM which *has* been emulated. Three rectangular BFM symbols for a quid. Walthamstow market arcades used to have a few MP4 machines like M7s and LVegasStrip e.t.c
Alongside the usual hi quota of lo-techs.

Trouble is, greed is really being rammed to the forefront. There just ain't enough room for novelty pieces that make in the order of £20/day when you have the likes of Slotto burning up the floor and pissing everyone off apart from the arcade owner.

Maybe we'll have to wait another 30 years when those machines will be classed as antiques. Until then - someone win the blimin' lottery and open up a 'retro arcade' will you please?

Ta. Thanks.

I can tell you the numbers won't be 2,3,8,17,24 and 42.

Hope that helps.
@_!!

I'm not sober enough to paste a proper reply *hic*

But if you search for Mablethorpe [near Skeggy, about 60m from me I think], there is supposed to be a great arcade if you like proper old machines, sure the old threads will have more info.

Going to make it my mission to go up there, get a handshake and a decent chat with the manager, and stuff my 256mb SDcard on my camera with as many detailed pics as is feasibly possible - even if I have to lose in every damn machine :)

Mind you, thats about 230 miles from you Ady, so probably not much use from your point of view!

http://www.fruit-emu...ght=mablethorpe :)
Anyway, I used to play at Thompsons in Bridlington, before it was knocked down and converted into flats a few years ago.

Used to go there with mum and dad every time we went up, had a 20p Rifle Range machine [as always, one knackered target - or am I just a crap shot?!], several of those Riviera 2p £1jp OXO machines, a Tooty Frooty [that thing that you dropped coins into the top of, and it lit up fruits as it fell behind a glass panel].

Plenty of other old stuff, thats where I used to play Screen Play - I was the master of 'Knight Time' :)

Several of those machines that you put a penny in and pull a lever, Bagatelle type things, where you could win your penny back!

I love those Riviera OXO machines, still a couple in Bridlington, get the 'cup' with a fiver of 2ps in and you can be there for a good 30 mins!

Drayton manor also have a musieum of slot machine i nthe zoo part, with these bagatelle games, and masses mroe that you can play on, plus old machine that use to make the games, looks a but like a blacksmiths place really.

At yarmouth last week there was an arcade with the old penny machines, just like the ones paul has posted. You got a bag of about 15 old pennys for a quid, so i bought one and ended up winning the jackpot of 12, yes 12 pennys, then kept on winning, so i had masses.

I had to have a go on a 'what the butler saw' machine there too.
