We tried that for a while, and all it did was cause a load of morons to post complete sh**e or question repeatedly when they could download.

 

Can confirm when I was on staff, this was exactly what happened, along with two other sites I was involved in..... they tried the same rule, got the exact same issue as Alex describes.

Yes, myself and Alex don't exactly see eye to eye on a number of things, but one thing I will most certainly NOT do, is kick a guy when he's down!

Seriously, if the guy can't give the site the attention it deserves, for whatever reason, then perhaps someone else should take over, even just for the short term

Judging by the fact my request to have the previous versions removed from here has so far been ignored ( including my pm to Alex ) I don't have much confidence.

As regards to someone else buying the site or taking it over...

 

I was a moderator here when Alex brought out Fruit Emu and he did so because in all fairness, no one else wanted too and Fruit Emu, despite what some people think of it, contains the vast library that is needed for FME to survive.

 

Millions of downloads available (a few less now the older MFME emulators have gone) with not just catering for MFME, but the older emulators like BFMulator and JPeMu to name a few... plus a short-lived one named Amber if I believe correctly! 

 

Anyway, as I say, no one else wanted Fruit Emu when Alan, the previous owner sold the site and for a while it looked like we might've closed completely... "oh why didn't it?" a few older members may have wished, but I ask you this, in all seriousness and honesty, could any other site have supported FME in general more than Fruit Emu has these last 14 years?

 

I know the answer to that is definitely NO... and in their hearts, the people who hate Fruit Emu (but do still come here) know that as well - FME and MFME couldn't have survived the 'wilderness' years without the site... and I for one was glad to be a part of keeping the site running through that time, for it to survive now as the biggest MFME outlet available.

 

So please hold off Alex whilst he goes through this difficult time - he needs and will get my entire support through his ongoing condition, as I hope he will from all other members too...

 

And, to be honest, there probably isn't anyone who would want to take over or afford to run Fruit Emu anyway...

As said before having ago at each other gets us no where!! Its not going to sort problems out. I think with alex the way that he is at the moment (and wouldn't wish on anybody) needs time to get sorted and who wouldnt cause i know if it was me,this time of year as well,my heath would come first!!!! Just think of the worry the fellows going though without everyone having a go.

Yes ok theres a problem that in time,needs addressing but with xmas been upon us and other things going on it will have to wait cause what ever is the answer is not going to be sorted over night anyway!!

Maybe mods could get heads together and start to think of ways/ideas to help sort problems out while alex sorts himself out and gets better.

 

Again its xmas lets have a good one please!!!

You could have also done that with the mfme source but didn't this works two ways.

People with accounts less than 4 weeks old should get no downloads. Then they should get a min set approved mb per day pending an introduction and at least 5 posts, even if one of them is moaning they cannot download, an auto message explaining why could be pinged to their inbox, rather than coders and layout creators having to answer endless whinges and questions over snd over in FME discussion from free loading leeches. Then to get any mb they should donate a minimum of £7.50 six monthly for a bronze membership. The site is too generous, I think. People should only get mb download if they post more than 20 times, then donate. FME is not free to abuse and leech, the site costs money to host. I don't think 50p per download for members less than a month old is too much to ask for a layout and £1 for each emulator to go towards the site. Just an idea. 👍
