Rom package has a lot of files inside. How do you tell what kind of file you're dealing with - game rom, sound rom, etc. How to tel which is which? Experimental way?

It all depends on the tech. Some have the sounds built into the roms and some have seperate sound roms.
Ones that don't have the sounds built in usually have 1 or 2 game roms with 1 or 2 sound roms files.
Is there a particular game rom you need identifying?

Just a general question. I was trying to try to do my own classic layout, but the process starts on rom loading. So, I got the example package, and it occured that I don't know which file to put to each rom section.
So I'd like to know how layout creators do that, because some rom packages I have, contain ~30 files inside. Some of those files are game roms, some sound... etc.

In those zip files will be numerous different rom revisions/updates to the game software, it's rare that sound roms get updated but it does happen, but usually you will find many versions of the same game and mostly only one set of sound roms.
Scorp4 and 5 you might find the game rom is titled the same with the extension being .lo and .hi, this will be a set of game software for a particular machine. You need to get mfme into edit mode then rom loader. The game software is loaded into the programme rom area. Make sure the .lo is at the top of the list, if not you can move it to the top with the arrow icon that is at the side of each rom section area.
