fruitnutter- you need to remove the MFME font from the downloads - you do not have permission to distribute this or anything that I have done.  Was not sure how to address you considering the multiple accounts you have at DIF !

 

Anyway have you spoken to Wizard to confirm that he is happy for you to distribute older versions of MFME ?

Someone should write fruitserver program lol.

Were we can all play the same machines, save states that another user has left, like project amber had.

 

I did start a program like this. Got quite far actually but addressing the issues of stopping players from tampering with layouts which can affect meters etc (and in turn falsify winnings) is/was proving a nightmare! Not to mention trying to keep things secure to stop tampering. I'll get back to this one day no doubt and see if I can finish it.

 

 

 

@Fruitnutter, I love the concept here, but I do think it could have some negative impacts on the forum and allowing people to download everything a bit too easily. Sometimes making it slightly harder for people to simply grab layouts is a good thing as it deters some of those who wish to get everything and sell them on (for example) although I admit I've not fully tried out your app as it crashed the first time I tried to download anything and now it wont let me open another instance as it says its already running. (I've checked, can't see it in task manager?)

 

Hope all won't be lost though and you can develop your app into something slightly different

This is an eBay sellers dream - they'll simply put this program on there distros saying how it's always updated.  I can see them selling this rather then layouts now.

Hmm strange. I will have to look into that as I've not had that same error here. More coding will be done tomorrow so will have a look at it then, thanks for that

Incidentaly, I am toying with the idea of adding a bigger download allowance at cost, and the funds coming to this site. Not through me, but DIRECTLY to this site.

 

Not thought too much about the logistics of how I'd make that work, but I definitely think it could be beneficial to the scene in general and this forum. That's assuming anyone even uses the software, who knows, it might not take off at all.

whenever I try to download it says "something went wrong" and asks me to make sure I am running with admin privileges (which I am) then locks up and I have to forcefully close. That's as far as I've used it because of that.

i say this as i should and do choose to upload my work where i feel fit and mostly on here but occasionally on the other sites

Sites like this rely on donations to help with the upkeep and encouraging people to use software would bypass the site completely and with no donations etc coming sites would close and there would no were to download/upload to.
As for charging people to download it's not going to work as we need to encourage people to come to such sites and maybe help out with resources etc.
We don't want to be in a place were creators stop making layouts to be given out like this.

Hi folks,

 

Ok no worries. I originally just removed the MFME Font Pack as requested by Reg, but now that Vectra has asked for his (her?) layouts to be removed (as is absolutely their right), then it is obvious that there is no desire for the software and that many creators are eventually going to go against it.

 

As I'm sure you can imagine, I made this software in good faith to attempt to breathe additional life into the scene, but I don't think it's been taken that way, so I am going to disable it now.

 

I shall watch in sadness as the scene becomes ever smaller.

The "scene" has survived a lot of turmoil for many, many years.

 

I seriously doubt the "scene" is becoming ever smaller, in fact i would go as far as to say it has grown and blossomed with the release of Mfme 6 onwards.

 

I am sure there is no need for sadness.

 

Good luck with your future ventures, this one was not to FME land's tastes and needs it seems.

I think you're right, it's not getting any smaller. I don't think it's getting any bigger either, but that could just be due to the number of us who actually enjoy playing emulated machines. It's got to be a finite number, hasn't it, so maybe this is it?!

The scene is getting bigger due to you tube exposure amongst other things, but it's just people who download and play the layouts without contributing anything which is disappointing.

The number of contributors hasn't really changed.

I think its a good idea, I wonder if somehow this could be implemented in to MFME?

 

I also appreciate the layout creators not wanted 'their' layouts / fonts etc. downloaded via this, however I wouldn't think it was a major issue, I'd want as many people as possible to play 'my' layout. 

 

I like the idea of seeing what you can play and then selecting to download it, it's like an all in one app.

 

Maybe if you work with everyone involved in the scene this could work!

Shame something like this cant be fixed as the state of downloads for mfme is absolutely shocking,

there is so many lost layouts and no way to find them all, no way to know if you have the latest version of a old layout without spending hours converting and trying.

and in the event of a site deciding to close its doors, alot of layouts will be lost. 

 

wish i had some ideas on how to make it better but all i do know if mfme layout downloads are in a shocking state across 3/4 sites.

 

Would be nice for example if i could find every layout from an author that i like. yes ploggy and pook have made a great effort to update all their layouts recently. but for example if i want to grab all tommy c's layouts hes done to check ive not missed any, i cant do that, id love to be able to grab everything a certain author has done and i cant do that except for one or two,

Unlikely, the second something comes along that could do it, no one appears to want it. Doesn't make sense to me.

 

In fact, it's not that no one appears to want it, it's like they actively want to stop the scene becoming better.

how about putting your obvious talent @fruitnutter, and make a custom front end for MFME, somthing like MGALAXY, but custom made for  mfme?

 

i think that will have some support from members.......

you could even include tabs to search by layout author, which tech, (ie MPU5, impact, M1A etc) , by manufactor,  machines by year of release, etc....

 

any thoughts on this anyone? im just thinking out loud again............ its a piece of software that i would most definatly be interested in using.
