There will be alot of jobs going due to no fault of the staff, where will this end, how many people have an addiction to bingo halls, fruit machines, casinos etc dont mention the online business where people can lose fortunes, where the mainstream media are happy to advertise bingo, slots, casino during peak time, encouraging people to gamble...

As i've said before, this has NOTHING to do with protection of the vulnerable. This was a ploy used by the amusement trade association BACTA to have leverage and go for a level playing field.
Arcades by definition are not betting shops or casinos. If they wanted to protect the players then why on earth were they looking at £2 play £150 on a cat c, and the possibility of a cat b5 with mega/ultra spins. Its darn right two faced.
There are plenty of people here who want rid of them, and im sure the pathetic stories of how the machines broke them will filter through. I too lost more money than i care to mention, but im a man for fu*k sake and i chose not to go back.
This move will see thousands lose their jobs, all for the sake of lining the pockets of the arcade owners, that the bottom line. What BACTA should have done is looked after their own members and not poked around in other people business. Now there will be betting shops converted to adult gaming centers, and the likes of ladbrokes etc. have deep pockets when it comes to kitting out shops. they will have the best machines, tito enabled to securely thrive a business. The likes of the family run `show boat` amusements wont stand a chance. Now they have lost their customers.
I will be interested to see what scientific games has up their sleeve. They will not have taken the acquisition of Barcrest and global draw lightly, and now with the absence of cat b2, they need to produce something by April next year.
To clarify, im disgusted by Bacta and what it has achieved, Placing somebody inside parliament (Jason frost, Plymouth) was actually a good move, i take my hat off, but it will cause many many individuals to lose their jobs to try and line the pockets of arcade owners. I do hope somebody from the organisation has the balls to answer.

I think it is very easy to be so blase over the action been taken.
Iv'e never(thankfully) been part of a family who have lost a relative through their exposure to the addiction of gambling.
Yet my best friends in-law took his own life in Feb of this year through mainly bookmakers and FOBT'S!
And the guilt of his brother lives on today, especially as he and other family members turned not only a blind eye
(to his more than clear problems)but his own brother who he rented from, evicted him only a month before he sadly
took his own life. Completely tragic beyond words.
And he and thousands of other individual's have also sadly lost their lives through a vicious cycle of addictive gambling.
And yes I more than agree with pbb's point, people are hooked by many forms and outlets of gambling and they are
not just taking their life's and getting into difficulty through bookmakers alone.
And yes Nails some of us may have more will power than others, but many people get to a point of no return.
I know iv'e too been there as I know many members have experienced similar situations.
What ever the reasons are behind the move. I will cheer the day the vile machines are changed.
The sooner the better, why wait till April, change them now!
Bookmakers will never lose out and there staff will get other jobs eventually.
Yet peoples life's destroyed and lost can never be repaired fully nor loved ones reincarnated.
For every person that is saved(when the vile units are changed) then that and that alone above everything,is all that counts and matters.
And yes a huge shake up across the industry needs to take place, this is only the start of a very long journey.

It’s a good start.
Next they need to clamp down on the availability of gambling online. It’s potentially a much bigger, and much more easily hidden problem.
Many people who would never ever set foot in a betting shop could easily be compelled to fling away “virtual” money on online bingo or gaming. There’s a lack of any real stigma to it; it’s marketed as being “fun”.

im surprised you ask since you've been playing machines for some time, however off the top of my head here it is -

cat b1 - £5 £10,000 jp
cat b2 - £100 £500jp
cat b3 - £2 £500 jp
cat b4 - £2 £400 club machines
cat b5 (doesnt exist yet but was proposed to be a maximim of £10 commited credit and £500jp)
category c £1 £100 (£2 £150 proposed)
cat d 10p £5 jp (proposed 20p and a whopping £10 jackpot)
hope that helps, peeps please feel free to correct me

ive self excluded guys for the same thing, its no different alcohol, drugs, gambling. you say bookmakers will never lose out? i hypothesis that with the implementation of a £2 stake, many shops will shut and then some of the big names will simply shut the doors because gambling is finished in betting shops. Why take 2/1 in a shop when its 4/1 or 5/1 on betfair.
greyhound racing is in decline, betting in shops was dwarfed by the fobt stakes etc etc. im NOT sticking up for betting shops absolutely not, my point was the old showmen are corrupt and it was all for personal gain.
question - when £2 a stake kicks in, do you think gamblers anon will have more, less or the same numbers ???? exactly the same, because gamblers will spunk their money on what ever moves.
fullstop period.

Thanks nails for the info on categories. Yes I play them, but not for real anymore and I had never, ever dreamed of playing a real £500 or even £1000 machine! I want to keep my own life thankyou very much. Precisely why I don't own a fruity in the house. Even if we had space I bet I'd never be allowed one in here. Just sticking to the good old MFME nowadays.

Very true nails as I said on this subject in another forum, although it's good the government are doing something about this and about time too. It's not going to stop you gambling even at £2 a pop you can still fritter away large sums of money, i lost £300 once in a couple of hours at 25p a go so it would be a lot more at £2.
Personally I've never gone into a bookies to gamble, but you can gamble your life savings on one horse bet but nothings done about that as that's different lol.
My neighbour for instance shell get £50 on a dog race to win £70 but won't spin slots to win more at 50p.
Scratchcards are just as bad at a whopping £10 a pop which lasts a few seconds they won't stop them as it apparently goes to "good causes" what that the pockets of camalot.

Same with everything all about tax for the government.
They dont care, mobile phones have been proven to cause cancer, they cover it up now (dont advertise the fact anymore, because of the big tax they get out of them).
Fags, drink.
All about money.
