So been after this fruit machine for 7-8 years now, Excalibur by MDM. Finally one has come up on ebay. Only problem is it's not fully working, alarm sounds on startup. 

 

If anyone that knows what they are doing could fix it, I would be happy to pay for the labor, any parts, the machine etc. The machine looks in great shape so it might be an easy fix.

Does it have a alarm code?.

No description at all on there.

 

Looking around £60 for a good mpu4 board these days.

Why someone hasn't contacted one of the Chinese PCB copy shops I don't know. I am sure they could clone an MPU4 very easily. Hardly a complex board.

Sent a private message to them to ask.

"So I plugged it in and it makes a whirring noise as if it is trying to start then immediately the alarm sounds which only stops when lid is closed. Because the lid lock isnt functioning correctly it seems like the alarm overrides everything. No lights at all on anywhere."

 

So it seems that there is no error code just the alarm sound. 

 

Anyone have any clue?

More than likely be the mpu4, battery damaged.

I could pick up a mpu4 board and a spare power supply for around £60. Also a PDF of the manual can be found online. 

 

How easy would it be to swap out the mpu4? Haven't done any major previous work to fruit machines.

very easy..

 

1. unplug all the plugs from the MPU4, (take a photo before, to remember the plug order) and remove the programe cart. (there may be some additional cables on the prog cart. dissconnect these, but remember the order (take photo) and reconnect them to the prog cart when you re-insert it into the new MPU4)

 

2. remove the old MPU4 from its metal retaining bracket (there is a spring loaded "plunger" push rod, on the right hand side of the MPU4, around half way down the side. push this rod (and hold) and the MPU4 will lift out of its cradle

 

3. re-attach the new MPU4 onto its cradle, and reconnect all the plugs you removed (just follow the color key on the MPU4 label, or use the photo you took) take care to plug the plugs in without bending, or miss keying the new MPU4 connectors.

 

4.plug the program cart into the new MPU4, and reconnect any connectors that were on the prog cart.

 

5. DOUBLE CHECK THAT ALL THE PLUGS ARE PLUGGED IN CORRECTLY!

 

6. power up the machine.

 

7. enjoy.
