Is it possible to mount fruit-machine buttons into a box with an encoder, then hook it into the pc via usb?  Anyone done anything like this?  Any help, appreciated.  Cheers.

yes i have done this.If you go onto desert island fruits there is a section that will explain how to do this.I set myself a target of doing it less than £100 .I have no electrical skills or diy skills yet i managed to make it.However its still mounted on a cardboard box and not all the buttons sit evenly.I am still looking to re seat it in a wooden box but haven't got round to it.There is also a section on here that will point you in the direction of what to buy.

I have done something very similar with a numerical keypad pcb and some switches in a plastic box. Cost about a tenner altogether I think.

I then progressed to using a Pacdrive so that I could have illuminated buttons, then I added an Ipac so I could add a couple of hoppers.

Numerical keypad pcb was no longer needed when I eventually got an Ipac.
