Hi all,
I have a cops n robbers gold, suddenly it went off whilst being played and came up with the following fault sequence after re- initialising.
WRONG SND ERR 97
UUUUUUUUUUUUUU
SOUND MEM ERR 98
then “CHECKING ROM’’
then finally PSU ERR 56
I have checked the main board and all 4 green lights are showing, checked all the plugs around the board perimeter, finally removed the Power supply unit, removed cover cannot see any evidence of burn out.
Checked all outgoing voltages at the pins and all correct.
Any ideas anyone!

Have you checked if the scorpion 4 board has batter corrosion? If not try a ram clear see if that sorts it.

I would try removing the program card, carefully remove any eproms on the card and re-insert them then refit program card (ALL whilst machine is switched off) As already mentioned, check battery for any corrosion.

Thanks for responses, the battery I replaced and fly wired it outside the board when I bought the machine last year and the scorpion board was ok then. I will try the program card and get back. Cheers!

Hi all,
Have removed game card and eproms, replaced and still the same, removed battery completely to reset RAM still no joy.
Incidentally noticed game card was slotted in the expansion slot and not the game slot although it’s always played ok. Did try it in games slot but result is the same!
Any other ideas please.

Some pictures of the original battery site, I’m thinking I can see some corrosion when pictures expanded, what do you think?

The wire with the blue on the solder looks a bit fizzed.

Some of those tracks to the right look a little iffy. I think you could be looking at replacing the MPU, not cheap nowadays.

I agree, I’ve had my magnifying glass out and they definitely look compromised. Where is the best place to source one, or shall I wait for eBay to throw up a reasonably priced refurbed one.

Yeah without a doubt some of those tracks are corroded and starting to break up.Have tried metering the tracks see if you can repair yourself. Tbh scorpion 4 boards shouldn't cost that much there ten a penny.

Keep an eye out on Ebay. Be about £60/70 for a working one. Cops and Robbers is one of the machines that holds it's value and is worth spending the money on.

Thanks everyone, it looks like I’ll be replacing the scorpion 4 board first and hopefully that will resolve the issue. I will let you all know when. Martyn

Any other ideas please keep them coming!

So, I found a company on line called e-service which were selling scorpion 4 boards without any delay, also with 3 months warranty, so ordered 1 yesterday morning for £60 delivered.
Arrived this afternoon, board came sealed in plastic and looked brand new.
fitted it and it works perfectly. So a big shout for them at e-service, great price, super quick delivery. Perfect.👍😀👌
Also a big thanks to everyone here for their inputs and knowledge.

Great stuff. Glad your all up and running. Just keep an eye on the battery and keep it switched on for sometime to keep it charged up (That will keep your cashpot values)

Thanks,
Obviously I cannot remove the battery and fly wire it until the 3 month warranty is over, would you recommend doing it then, or can I leave it for a year or 2, keeping an eye on it periodically?
Thanks Martyn

Personally i'd leave it as is and keep an eye on things. If you remove the battery your game will reset back to the beginning and you'll have to build it up again. Take quite a while on a clubber.

I used to deal with e-service a lot at work, I think they do a scorp 4 repair for around £35 - might be worth getting the broken one repaired for that price. I recently had a refurb scorp 4 off them and worked great - that said, first thing I did was get the battery off and flywire away.
