'Following the disaster in London
East Anglian Ambulance Service have launched a
national "In case of Emergency ( ICE ) " campaign with the
support of Falklands war hero Simon Weston and in
association with Vodafone's annual life savers award.
The idea is that you store the word "
I C E " in your mobile phone address book, and against
it enter the number of the person you would want to be
contacted "In Case of Emergency".

In an emergency situation ambulance and hospital staff
will then be able to quickly find out who your next of
kin are and be able to contact them.
It's so simple that everyone can do it. Please do.
Please will you also forward this to everybody in your
address book, it won't take too many 'forwards'
before everybody will know about this.
It really could save your life. For
more than one contact name ICE1, ICE2, ICE3 etc'

Sounds a VERY good idea......

So simple i'm surprised it's not been suggested before.....

Of course there's the fact it may be locked....then the services can crack the sim should it be needed.

I was amazed when my dad mentioned this in the car earlier, just after I read about it on here earlier. Having read about it, it becomes a 'no brainer' - no reason for NOT doing it, noone knows when it'll be needed, but it saves a lot of hassle and stress when it is implemented.

Congrats on the 3500 posts!

Its a good idea, pointless until it hits the news on tv though, as not many people will see it on the web, but something this simple and this useful is bound to get into the news.

Sadly the news is SOOOOO SLOOOOOW it may take some time before the clueless idiots that report it twig on to this, maybe someone should wake them up and point it out to them.

i work in one of the london hospitals that was on red alert last thursday.
i sent the email to our IT department so it could be posted on the forum to go out to all staff at the hospital and i am still waiting. as you said, its a no brainer,so simple but they dont seem to think so.
