still worth an update, do you have any of the 'sound effect' crap on in the config?

No. I have turned that off.(first thing I did when I upgraded to vista. Made all my music sound shite.) Anyway I have downloaded and updated and cannot notice any difference. Dont get me wrong, its not all layouts. I am playing 777 heaven at the mo(ta hts!)(and dads version) and its crackly. Nudges I can barely hear. I just cannot remember it being like this when I had xp. Maybe its just vista being vista.

Could just be the card itself AC97 aint that good at the sound that MFME uses do you have another card to test?
Also are other sounds ok or is it just MFME? Like are mp3s ok?

Very highly likely if new drivers do bugger all consider a new sound card even a £10-£15 card would do.

AC97=DIRTY
The clue is in the question. The 97 stands for 1997. It's 12 year old technology that refuses to die.
