HOPEFULLY by the time I get back from work, this'll be sorted. I've noticed some weird behaviour with my connection today :)

I've gone from Pipex 576kbit [gone from the best ISP around in 2002 to the worst company I have had to deal with, counldn't recommend them to anyone now], to Plusnet, 2Mbit Premier [higher usage] for £21.99 a month.

Well, I say 2Mbit... they say it should be 2Mbit but depends on distances and noise levels on the line, 1Mbit would be a start but the exchange is about 600m from me now so I can't see 2Mbit being a problem.

If worst comes to the worst, I might not be online for a bit, so I thought I'd better let you know :D

Hmmm... I'm still on 576kbit with Pipex, gonna investigate - I assumed my connection with Pipex would have dropped by now?!

I'll let you know how I get on :D

AOL me  yeah I know....anyway they promised me a 2meg upgrade months ago and this was going to happen in July (been 1mb from the onset @ £29:99)....Yeah ok AOL my mate works for BT and there's no way I will get that with the little old bit of copper lead stretching 1.5 miles...So thanks for when I threatened to leave you you gave me £5 back for the last 13 months and lowered my bill....

But now if 1mb Is the max I can get, I would have originally been 512kb@£14:99 ~ due to an upgrade..so to the mis-sell I really should pay what is now 512 (+the free up to 1mb) @£14.99 . but now i'm paying the lower £19:99 which is a 1mb regardless for new members...

NTL where are you!

Ok, just been on the blower to Plusnet, as I am connecting at the same 576kbit I had with Pipex, apparently BT are in the process of 'regrading' me to 2Mbit, but until they sort it out [normally within 5 working days], I'll still be on this slow 576Kbit...

The one thing I'm dreading is that once I've used 2Mbit, if I ever have to go back to 56k dialup for any reason I think I'd end up chopping my head off :)

Ben you may get a £14.99 one off charge for them having to upgrade your line, they didnt have to in my case, something to do with the max you line can handle.

as for dial up i bet you miss those screechy 56k noises lol

I miss the noises, I don't miss having to take up the phone line all day to download 200mb :)

God yeah, takes bloody ages i remember when my mate used to have dial up, and coming from home with bb and then going round to his and not even wanting to use the net because it was sooo slow.

I'm with Onetel, i get 2mb unlimited broadband and free evening and weekends phone calls for £24.99, no problems what so ever. It makes a hell of a difference downloading 235kbs.
Well I jumped into the river
Too many times to make it home
I'm out here on my own, an drifting all alone
If it doesn't show give it time
To read between the lines

That is a sales ploy Andy.....total rubbish you will need to pay it......best to say whats the ratio i'm sharing it with, when they say 50:1 say ok £16 divided is...32p---offer that or say you don't wan't it!

I remember anyway when they promised a 20:1 ratio max where did that go!

Plusnet [the one I am getting] is 30:1 which is one of the better contention ratios I've seen.

I`ve just started with Demon net after 5 years of dial-up, 2 mbps for £20/month with no download limits and on 24/7 :-) not only that but they`ve not started to debit my bank account, here`s hoping they`ve forgotten ;-)
oh but the joy of downloading a 20 meg file in less than 3 minutes instead of an hour....

How about this..
Been on tiscali 512k unlimited 19.99 pm for about 6 months now, thinking of upgrading for a while so thought i would click on the upgrade button on my homepage and found 512k unlimited 14.99 pm so clicked it and now paying 14.99 instead of 19.99 for the SAME PACKAGE :0.

So would this be an upgrade or downgrade?

I pay £30 a month with UKonline just for the 8meg ADSL with free wireless router.

Expensive, yes. Fast, oh yes. Fastest speed I have seen is 795 kbs (or kbps can't remember which).

The limit per month is 30gb, which is reasonable.

I argree the price is quite high, but compared to 2 years I was paying £29.99 for 0.5 meg I am no worse off per month for having a great broadband speed.

Also, i have signed 2 people up to ukonline so ukonline have given me back 2 months in full - again something other providers don't do.

Reasonable, but surely pointless?

I mean if you are going to use the internet that infrequently you may as well get a 2Mbit with a 30gb limit for £14.99.

Web pages won't load a great deal faster, the only great improvement you will see is in media. Still, it would be fast, I just couldn't handle the limit :)

, I'll still be on this slow 576Kbit...

Ah, I had to do that when I left the wife, 56k aint so bad... Mind you, all I really do is chat on MSN, so you don't really need a huge connection for that :)

Saying that, I DID get back on 2mb ADSL as soon as I could, just so "it is there"!
