You say EMU-creators? I am aware of three, Re-Animator, Wizard, and DialTone. Chris Wren (Wizard) was responsible for Fruit8.73 which was the first emulator if i am correct. Re-Animator is responsible for Scorpion/BFMulator, and DialTone has to do with MFME though i don't know much about him, only that he works, or worked with, Chris.

Now if you mean layouts, given you say you are aware of many creators, i'd say for me, the best DX'er is...Pook.

Chris Wren (Wizard) - Fruit series of emulators + MFME

Tony Friery (Dialtone) - JPeMu + MFME

Herbert West (Re-Animator) - BFMulator

Well i was thinking pook myself but didnt know which way ppl would look at it, either "whos the best" or "who was first" but i recon pooks right up at the top in terms of who makes the best emulations.

But there is some equally good creators that are in the same league.

I must say that Pook's layouts really are in a league of their own. It's the attention to detail that sets them apart from the others. That's not to say that others' efforts should not be applauded, it's just that Pook goes that extra few yards to make his work truly realistic, and he is obviously a perfectionist.

I'm sure other DX'ers like hurtand (whose Andy Capp DX is fantastic by the way) will agree that Pook sets the standard for others to follow.

Just a shame that my lap-top screen is only 1024... :)

Oh yes, 40 hours of hard work on an emulator that did not support any real form of graphics layout. The bitmaps were drawn in the order they were created so it was background first but once the background bitmap was in you could not right click to create new lamp as it just went to properties for that bit map so I had to keep making the background 10x10 pixels wide, create lamp, resize background and then move bitmap in place. All in all a nightmare but look where its lead to.

For the real retro look get a copy of fruit 6.0 and try the original DX out lol

Pardon my french but what aload of f*****g RUBBISH.

What you're doing is saying "some people deserve praise and others dont"

This, my friends, is an emulation scene where people provide for free with absolutely no questions asked and no restrictions.

Why in god's name would you want labels on people who you like?

f*** sake, instead of that why not just say a polite thankyou in the release thread and have done with it?

Noone is 'better' than anyone else here, every layout takes time to make and release, *yes*, some people are a little better in photoshop or whatever than others but every layout made and released needs the same amount of time and work put into it.

You're asking to put a stick in a hornets nest when it is completely and totally unesessary.

I mean, why not just come out and say "well pook makes great layouts and everyone elses are shit.. so pook deserves a badge"

I must go and lay down, I have this f*****g NASTY taste in my mouth.

Pook has been making layouts for around 4 years, it comes as no suprise then that he has plenty of experience and produces excellent layouts.

However, what people are doing here is knocking those who havent had the same experience which is totally f*****g wrong.

Quite why people need to even say it is beyond me.

I was gonna bin this topic earlier, I seem to remember pretty heated arguments [thats arguments, not debates] along these lines in the past.

IMHO if a layout works, and if a DX, is at least not done in 16 colours, it is good enough for me. People make DXs because they want to, and threads like these are a kick in the teeth for those that design because they enjoy it but whose work may be slightly below that of other designers.

Oh, just a quick point. Pooks DXs are very good, but are all 1280x1024. If you can handle 1280x1024, a 1280x1024 will provide far more detail than a 1024x768.

If there is one thing that does get on my tits, it isn't how good a layout is graphically, it is how badly tested some are. Aside from buttons and stuff not working, I treat all layouts equally and respect the work the authors put into them.

Thats all I'm gonna say on the topic. I'm not going to lock this thread, simply because I'd rather go and microwave some chinese while I wait for my 60 cans of Slim Fast to arrive in the next couple of days :D

Exactly, compare the DXes done 2-3 years ago with the ones now and virtually every one of them looks crap (good example, the Empire layouts I knocked up in a mad release a day week. At the time quotes were like best out there etc but now they look dated and crap). Also better and better artwork is turning up to give better layouts. And of course, the more people do layouts the better they become (another of my examples, leave out Viva as emulator was not designed for it but compare Take your Pick to Big Nite Out. The differences are vast)

yes gary's viva espana was the first. For those on the ride from the start if you start feeling complacent or down about the scene fire up that dx and the memories of ecstasy come flooding back.Far and away the most important dx as it kickstarted and showed what could be done.Gary's Empire week should also not be forgotton.
pooks dxs are great if a little generic

Yes, I feel I must apologise for expressing my opinion yesterday and upsetting people such as Mythicos when I said I found Pook's layouts the most enjoyable.

What was I thinking?

It's only today that I realise how utterly foolish I have been, and would once again like the opportunity to apologise for all concerned...

Yes that nasty taste seems to be gettin transfered to nasty txt if u ask me.

Why r u comin out with loadsa shit???
Why r u sayin "WHAT YOUR SAYING IS" and then putting "WHAT YOUR THINKING"???

You have put loadsa degrading comments there and tried to declare thats what i meant to say. NASTY NASTY NASTY.LIAR LIAR LIAR. I bet u get battered everytime you go out drinking if thats how you twist things. (well you would where i live).

What im saying is "whos the most respected for there GOOD work and effort"

IM NOT SAYIN ANYTHING DEROGATORY IN ANY WAY ABOUT ANYBODY.
So what im saying now is "GROW UP" and try learning to "SHOW SOME RESPECT".

If i have anything to say I SAY IT MYSELF DIRECTLY.

And how can you say "no-one is better"? That my friend is a "smack in the face" to the ppl who do put a lot more time, effort and devotion into their work.

Oh and its not that "I LIKE POOK",but more "I LIKE HIS WORK" - which is what this thread was about.

I think that people should calm down really, fruit-emu isn't meant to be a place for abuse, slagging, arguing, its meant to be a palce where we all can hav a laff and enjoy ourselves.

Is there a link to the original Viva Espana DX? I would like to play this myself. I assume Fruit6.0 is tucked away in the repository?
