Ok, so I have a problem with a bandit which is really getting on my tits now
I have an Austin Powers MPU5, new Genesis cab.
It arrived with an SR5 Coin Controls mech. Fine, but after 1 day stopped taking £1 coins [or more precisely, accepted about 1% of £1 coins]. It takes ALL other coins 100%, won't refuse one of them!
The supplier gave me a C435 [Coin Controls] mech to try. This seemed to be ok, it was accepting coins reasonably well, but then it started 'eating' coins every so often, and after eating a coin, sometimes minutes after while the machine wasn't even being played, it would throw up a Strim Alarm, or a 'Pulse something-or-other' alarm.
The supplier gave me ANOTHER SR5, not the same one as I still have that, and it started off working fine for about a day... and then as was the case with the first, it started refusing far too many £1 coins, and is now back to accepting about 1% of them.
------
Any ideas?
I'm very close to getting a Mars mech and trying that, although I understand I need to change the coin entry bezel thing over.
The only problem is, what with 3 mechs being total arses, I don't want to fork out for a Mars mech only to have that f*** up because the problem wasn't the mech after all
Anyway, any help would be appreciated
Dad thought that wiring diagrams may come in useful as well, if anyone has any scans or knows a good link that would also be much appreciated

Don't have a spare loom to try it with, I don't suppose you have one for sale?
It doesn't do the same thing with all 3, the C435 takes coins but keeps alarming, whereas the 2 SR5s keep refusing £1 coins.
Not sure about interface board, didn't think these used interface boards?
Also, someone mentioned cleaning, all have been cleaned
Cheers

soz ben i don't have a spare coin mech loom for sale, but i do have a mpu5 for sale if u need 1.
if u have another barcrest machine u could try changing looms over
also come to think about it if there is a pcb on the Y chute that could also be faulty

it could be the coin mechs asthe coin controls c435 and the sr5 mechs are f***in shit!!!!
more and more machines are using sr5 mechs not due to reliability but because they are about 30 quid cheaper than a mars mech which is far more superior.
honestly ben it may just be 3 crappy mechs.
if you can try a mars mech in test with the correct connections which i think barcrest machines do have, put through loads of £1.00 coins and see if there is a difference.

I've just been to my local supplier, stunning people there
They let me take my own mechs to try on one of their machines, ended up using Tomb Raider.
They've cleaned both mechs for me [far more thoroughly than I did!] and both took all coins fine in their machine.
I'm therefore convinced it is more like the wiring between the MPU5 and SR5, or perhaps some kind of PSU issue - most likely seems to be a wiring issue.
Gonna have a play about with the plugs and see what happens

if the machine has been working fine and then all of a sudden the machine has become poor then i would be suprised thats its a wiring fault(but you never know).
i have never known a new style barcrest psu to give poor acceptance faults.

The 2 SR5s have been utter shite with accepting, both purely £1 coins.
The one that came with it worked fine for about 10 mins, then died. I was given the C435A as a replacement, but that gives the Strim alarms, and when I tried the 2nd SR5, that was fine for about 10 mins, and then that stopped taking £1 coins too :S

THe SR5 Is a great Mech when used in CCTalk mode, if the mech is teach enabled then it can be reprogrammed by running coins through, you will need the mech tool manual.
It sounds like it is the psu or more likely the mpu, I would procede by checking you have a clean +12 supply and your 0v is not floating, because if it is then this may cause these problems because the mech will draw current from the emables!
Anyway get a multimeter and check there is <1 hm between the mech GND the PSU, Also check that there is at least 11V getting to the mech.

it is known in the industry(well in scotland anyway) that the sr5 mech has had problems since day one.
although when the machines that have changed to serial mechs the sr5 have worked ok but with the standard parallel mech it has been a big letdown.
we return about 5 sr5 mechs to every mars mech.
we now only buy machines with mars as standard .
lincsleisure
barcrests are usually pretty reliable an in my experience i have never had a wiring fault connected with the coin mech or a psu fault with the coin mech but i am always open to new faults at anytime.

Ben,
Unplug the cable at both ends, and see if it looks "bad", cables in fruities these days use IDC connectors usually, which are prone to failure more than a good old fashioned connector. They basically rely on having the cable just pushed into a groove and the groove cuts through the outer insulation and makes contact with the wiring inside.
If during manufactur or at any other time the cable gets pushed to "far" it could cut further and cut through the actuall cable inside. OR it could "pull" out, and not make good contact.
Try checking each wire, to make sure it really is making contact, and then try again.
Failing that, a new mpu board / psu is next to nothing on ebay, and really is a must have, specially if you ever supply machines to anyone, spares are a must....
Even if its just for home use, I recommend getting a spare of most things, as it will save you a lot of brain-ache in the future.....
That way you can plug stuff in to see what makes a difference.
