My advice would be as follows
All though you can get some great bargains on places like ebay I mean seen 2001 ish machines go for £80 I would personally pay a bit extra to get from a company who will normally offer warrenty and giving the machine the necessary tests e.g bulbs, board reels, coin mech etc.
Now onto the machine itself I have a barcrest mpu5 machine and I think mpu5 is probably regarded as the most reliable tech, barcrest are normally good solid machines too. All though companies like maygay and global have produced some great machines I would probably avoid them simply because of the epoch board they run on. The amount of epoch machines I have seen with reel sync errors blown boards horrible game delays. Although I would still be temped to buy a Simpons machine
For price range I would probably say max
1998-2002 machine about £150 maybe £200 if off a company with warrenty etc
2002-2004 machine about £250 depending on machine
If you are after a Simpsons machine these seem to still go for about £300 off ebay for some reason seem to sell really high for old machines
Generally I would get a machine with plenty of features loads of ways of getting jackpot etc. Vamp it ups blue/red trail games seem good for this in my opinion
Basicall yget one you think you will play on, eventually they do become a bit boring but I feel I have getting great entertainment and value for money on mine. (Good little money box too! even at 10p £5 play)

Hi all i have owned the following. I started at the age of about 10 or 11?
JPM Top Streak
JPM Reel Crazy (in superb condition as i remember it)
JPM Big Banker (Never paid out, was too young to know what i was doing, these were before internet days)
Bell Fruit Hi Lo Silver
BWB Ace Chase
Barcrest Top Gears
A Castle machine (can't remember what it was called. Got the glasses somewhere?)
Bell Fruit Cash Explosion (still got this baby, recently got it out of my old mans garage, a little bit rotten at the bottom :-()
JPM Big Banker (the later version)
I have the following in my possesion now. Not all at my house cause i would need another bedroom lol
BF Cops n robs deluxe in PERFECT condition with all the gubbings
BF Two Towers Club
BWB Rat Race in superb condition and fully working thanks to a few certain people
BF Crazy Fruits Club in superb condition with all the gubbings
Barcrest Monty Python Club
Barcrest Psyco cash beast club
JPM Casino crazy club (hopper payout)
BF Original Only fools and horses in the phoenix 1 cabinet (rebuild one)
Think thats about it, oh and a club pacman which is as tatty as Liz Mc Donald out of coronation street.
By the way i haven't included video and pinball machines in this Only have 2 of them. I have banned myself from buying anymore. If i do then i will have to get rid of some.

Please let me know if you find those Castle glasses (or any other leftovers) I'm always on the lookout for ANY Castle stuff I can get my hands on!
I hope it was a "Crackerpot", I need a replacement bottom glass!

Ebay is your best bet for a good starting point. You can sometimes pick out a good bargain. Stay clear of the operators on there selling them cause they start on silly prices. Just cause they "have payouts connected" cause there "licenced" sellers. So what!

I'll have a look when i go to my old boy's. I have a reel glass for definet. Your welcome to any stuff i have for free so long as you cover the postage I may even have a dot matrix for a castle machine on my shelf of junk. Tell you what, when i get a chance i'll have a dig about and compile a list of what i have. None of that stuff is of any use to me. My old boy want's it moving anyway. I'll keep you posted. I think there may even be an old PSU for one of the early ace machines if my memory serves me correctly? I will start a new thread but i will also put it on MPU MECCA as well cause i have had a lot of help off there. The castle stuff is yours though. Keep em peeled.

Nice one! I would be glad to give you what i can. I have a question for you. I have been wondering this for a while. Correct me if i'm wrong on the following.
BWB bought castle up?
Gold mine was the last rat-race clone which had the castle type fruits in the artwork.
Win again came out before rat race?
So why is it made by BWB but has the castle type fruits in the artwork?
Did win again come out after rat race? I always thought rat race came first???
Am i making sence?

Win-A-Gain came out in February 1985 and Rat Race came out in October 1985, the former being converted from Hyper Viper, Options Unlimited and the latter from the taller-style cab such as Fortune Numbers, Strike-A-Light and Razzle Dazzle.
Can't give you any info on the artwork, just the dates. Hope it clears it up for you John...
