For cheapness - Hitachi or IBM Deskstar, but I've had a couple fail on me, so I guess thats the problem with cheap drives
Make sure you get the right one, if your motherboard handles up to ATA-100, don't get ATA-133 or SATA [ATA-150]. By that I mean don't do what I do and order PC bits when drunk!
I'm quite fond of Seagate Barracuda drives, and they should come with a 3 year guarentee aswell...

ok couple of other questions:
how long do ya reckon it took to fill the current one
what sort of stuff is going on there, i.e lots of movies, music, work etc
Only ask cos wanna get an idea of what size drive is worth getting, a 400gb has been posted above but that might be complete overkill for you. For instance I am currently using a 120gb drive that cost £60 and does me fine.
oh and in the meantime have a clean up on the current drive, amazig how much space is taken up with useless shite, cleared near 20gb worth off mine in duplicated files and crap

I could not recommend a 400GB HDD one bit
And that price is too high for a start

I have a lot of music. Some movies and some work. I have quite a lot of emulations aswell which amounts to some space. Ive already cleaned it up as much as possible. Its taken me an average amount of time to get this far. I also think the 400Gb one would be too much.

considering your current 80gb has prob around half or more taken up with windows and various programs you prob dont need anything more than 160-200gb which should come quite cheaply.

thats just after a very quick search, under £60 or 160gb, only a little more for 200gb, should do you fine and is a damn good drive, have a little look about for something like that i reckon

I've been using Maxtor drives for a long time now with no problems. I got 2 x 160gb & a 120gb all Maxtor. You get a good warranty with them too. I have had an IBM/hitachi 80gb die on me and also a western digital died. I never liked the idea of Huge drives. Too much to lose in one go i think.

larger drives are nice and stable now but no matter what drive you have, its all about good care and maintenance of it. Plus you should always back up anything of real importance.
I learnt that one the hard way after losing near 8000 songs when my hard drive died a while back.
Safe as houses now though, simply got a dvd writer for backup, after a couple of hours burning i can have complete back up hard copies of all my music on only a few dvd's

Ive just checked the 160gb out and it looks like a pretty good deal. 160gb would do me fine. Thanks everybody for helping me out.
