If you have access to a scope you could measure the length of the pulse to see if the note acceptor is faulty, it should be 100ms ideally, but usually 97 to 103 ms is allowed. 50ms is the absolute minimum that would be allowed, but would probably cause a error message like you are getting. (Dont know this acceptor, or how barcrest codes there stuff) but thats in general.....
If you cant get access to a scope, then you could try swapping the note acceptor for another one, if the problem goes away, its a faulty note acceptor, it sounds like the "accept" line is being pulsed to short, it less than the recommended 100ms...... Could be a faulty mpu not recognising it, or a bad note acceptor (maybe they can be adjusted, dont know, never seen that model, as ben said, no harm in asking them).
You could get a circuit built to stretch the pulse, but it would not really be worth it, unless you already knew how to do it, easier just to get a working acceptor, or mpu.....
maybe its set on the wrong protocol, but if it is actually accepting notes, and getting the value correct then that sounds unlikely, so probably a problem with hardware.
Dont think its the cable, as I cant see how that would shorten a pulse, but just to be on the safe side, make sure the cable is not damaged.
Course, barcrest could require a odd time for the pulse, but best bet is to ask money controls what the recommend, I asked JCM when I had a problem with my jcm acceptor, and they bent over backwards to help, hopefully money controls will be the same.... (I would not even waste my breath asking barcrest, unless you are a registered company, they just think you are scum of the earth if you are not....)
