There's people sell cds full of free stuff, I don't think ebay does anything about it .. they'd probably get around it by saying that they were selling a service, rather than the product.
They downloaded all the roms, layouts, etc.. and put them on a cd to save people going to all that effort.
Then you pay them, but the cost is for time spent collecting all the stuff, and the cost of the blank disc.
I think its different if there's copyright involved... are the emulators copyrighted?

Personally, those people annoy me, because there's bound to be lots of people buying them who aren't aware that the stuff is available for free...
I think it should be made that they have to mention in the auction that the stuff on the disc can be found for free download on the internet, and maybe a link to a site or something.. let people have the choice at least.

I think we should create an ebay hate squad it works like this :-

1) We buy a CD/DVD off the person to get the address

2) We go round and sever the ligaments at the back of the knee

3) Find a scapegoat for said crime

4) Jobs a good 'un

What you could do is offer 600+ games on ebay for no reserve, then when the interested party looks at the details they see an advert for Fruit-emu...

Established and trusted site
Loads of games, join for free, download for FREE!
Tutorials, advice, games room, forums and much more...for FREE!
Come and join our friendly community...for FREE!
Don't waste money on stuff you shouldn't have to pay for, join Fruit-Emu...it's FREE!
FREE! FREE! FREE!

etc

Then embellish on the fact that 'why would you want to pay £3 for a CD, then wait days for it to arrive, when you can click the link and be enjoying games in minutes, for FREE? Don't give these pricks your money...'

That should reduce the sales for these sad people :)
Watch out! There's a SIG thief about...

I think, as has been discussed before, sometimes these CD/DVD services can be useful, but the need to be done in the same as as ROMset burners...

Having said that, I'm not sure if he still does it but Troutman used to do a 'send me a DVD [or 2, I forget] and I'll send you all the ROMs and Layouts', which is essentially a ROMburning service.

If these discs were on eBay as FULL SETS (which these onces clearly aren't, theres about 60 games on there by the look of it], and are done for reasonable value for money [IMHO thats about 50p for 1st class postage, 50p for the single DVD, and 50p for effort... so something in the region of £1.50 all in for a complete set]... then I haven't got a problem with them really.

You could get around that though by saying DO NOT BID ON THIS AUCTION, INFORMATION ONLY.
And then put a nice piccy of a fruit machine in your advertisement, and say 'if you do bid, the winning bidder will be buying this picture of a fruit machine to be delivered to their email address.'
Then, technically, you're selling something..

I prefer the funny eBay sales. Maybe we should do one of those.

''Buy my authentic 'fart in a jar' and recieve some free fruities on a disk.''

Maybe we could even put the disk in the jar.

Thinking about it though. I wouldn't be able to do such a sale as I tend to do a lot of following thru likes. The disk will probably dissolve in the contents of any jars I produce.
