Ive been looking round some other forums recently (not fruit based) and have noticed some of the regulars and members "in the know" put little links in there sigs for to help with questions from newbies about problems they are having.
I just thought maybe people on here should do the same to save having to put up links to the knowlegdebase everytime someone asks something like how do I get the layout to fit my screen, or is this layout available or can this tech be emud?.
Instead of having to say oh go here and then do this and that, you could say just click on X link in my sig.
you know what I mean and it would probably save a headache or two:) .
what do you think?
Andy

Sounds like a good idea. It would save so much hassle for the people who answer those questions all day long.

Good idea methinks.
You could name the link somthing like "new members click here" or "Help and Advice" that sort of thing.
Alot of the forums i use do the same sort of thing and it has helped me no end.

I think the issue is with n00bs that use the 'new thread' button before actually reading a post?
I go on plenty of forums [I use plenty of alises though
], and I've not seen any where people point n00bs into the right direction using links in sigs.
IMHO the sort of people that read sigs are the sort of people that would know how to use a forum search button.
Maybe it is just me
I've always been of an inquisitive nature, and if I can't find the answer to something, I'll find it out by looking, rather than asking. Having said that, forums can be a daunting place, and I understand why people ask...
Maybe my issue is more with ungrateful people than with n00bies? I mean if someone says 'Hi all, I miss Andy Capp, is the machine available? Thanks :)', thats cool. If someone says 'i want mtrs for space raiders', or 'i want party times on my pc' they can fook off.
Sorry, and I know I'll be criticised for that approach, but thats how I work. I'm the person in Argos that actually calls customers 'sir', and would bend over backwards to help them, and I guess I expect the same level of courtesy in return.
Heck I'm a boring 19 year old I know, but I believe in 'treat others as you would expect to be treated'. Someone says to me 'i want mtr', and I reply 'don't we all now fook off' or similar. Simple.

It was at Xbox scene I saw some people doing this and gave me the idea.
Helped me out alot while I was looking how to mod my xbox.

think bens quite rights, its all a bit swings and roundabouts really.
Noobs need to be a bit more polite at times, the odd please and thank you never goes amiss. As ben says, anyone saying i want/where is without the P's & Q's can feck right orf.
On the other hand there needs to be a certain tolerance from those of us who know how to do things, i know that these messages get posted constantly but if the person asking is doing it in a nice way then a fair response is called for rather than a 'how thick are you dickhead' reply
