I have a old Maygay Monopoly Deluxe Machine, however there is a problem with it, when I turn on the power only around 8 light light up on the front and part of the credit display also lights up.

The status inside is that the full bank of 6 LED's on the mainboard are all light up. However 12v- is on, 12+ is off and 5v is on.

This indicates a power issue but I am not sure where to look for the problem, all connectors on the PSU are in but it's not using the correct connector block(Any one give me a correct colour guide from pin 1 on the PSU so I can cnfirm all is correct?)

When I plug in or pull out the power lead the 12v+ flickers but that is all.

Any ideas on what to check.????

Sorry I cant help Dafish except to say wet your fingers and touch the + and - terminals......Not really suggested, but the point was to put this back on the homepage so hopefully some of the 'engineer' guy's will see it.

Another suggestion may be to search the threads for real help and who does 'know their stuff' send a quick PM to them pointing to this in case they miss it.

there should be some black capped fuse holders on the power supply, one should be marked as -12v if the sticker is still on the psu.
take the -12 fuse out and check to see if it has blown(the fuse will look snapped or some brown burn marks may be on the glass part of the fuse)

replace the fuse if it has blown.

if the fuse is blown and keeps blowing when you replace the fuse the power supply may have a blown capacitor which will probably need a complete power supply replacement because so many components were specifically made for the machines and they now no longer make them.

the wiring inside the power supply make also have burnt out(if you remove the power supply and look underneath it you will see the wiring and it would be pretty obvious if this has happened.

I checked all the fuses and all seem ok, I have looked at the bottom of the PSU and none of the wires appear to be burn't.

Any other sugestions?

If it normal to only get 8 or so lights on if the machine has a power fault?

IDEAS??

if the -12v line is out then its either a power supply fault or an mpu fault.

8 times out of 10 its the power supply.

power faults can give lots of weird faults like some lights not coming on or reel faults .

machines of this age will develop more faults with the power supply rather that the mpu so i would look at a replacement power supply first.

tbh i mentioned in another post recently if its not an obvious fault its better to get a local supplier to check it for you first because you could end up spending money you dont have to if you are just going to replace parts on the chance that its maybe faulty.

OK Guys, another idea, not sure if it could be the problem but I will turn to your better judgment.

Looking at the board of the machine I have noticed that the onboard battery is fured up to hell, and a couple of the tracks near the battery are a little dark.

Could this be causing the 12v issue?

PS not sure when the last time this machine was switched on and in a working condition, all I know is that the user said it worked, went back to it and it did not.

Ideas?

quite possible if the machine has been left with no power and in a cold damp area like a garage for a long time.

i could probably get a replacement battery for you for about 4 quid in postage.

you might be able to get these on ebay.

Cheers Baz, just sent to money now.

If this does not work, whats the chances of you getting hold of a mainboard for this machine? (m1a) Long shot I know, but seems a shame to scrap a Monopoly. :(

Had a volt meter on the PSU and Found a good +5 out and a -+ 11V (Which I would have thought were the 12v's but given it's age I would guess that this is acceptable voltages.

if it doesn't work i'll see if i can get you an ma1 mpu.

since you are getting some voltage out of the power supply i would now assume its the motherboard or the battery thats giving you the problems.

it was a cheap machine to buy for £7 including delivery, and as u said if you have no joy then a good conversion for a mame.

i couldn't be bothered with it, so u got a real bargain.

Another thing to look for on MPUs when the battery has failed is they tend to leak battery acid which attacks the solder track on the board :( just something else to be aware of that can cause weird problems
