Are there any members who have been through the immigration process for america and have had to file a waiver? i have been refused a green card due to a past criminal record which is over 25 years ago.my wife has been told to file a hardship waiver and i have to file a waiver for my past record.
if anyone has been through this or knows how i can get help please reply.
Thank you.......Gary

I would have thought the Citizens Advice Bureau?

Not sure if they can help with matters regarding US migration but they are worth a shot!

I would have thought the Citizens Advice Bureau?
Sorry Ben....Oh Dear. I come into contact with this organisation at least a couple of times a week. Basically the people who "man" them don't know anything about anything. They are given a list of phone numbers who they will call when you need some real help. Whatever gives you the idea they would know anything about emigration when they can't even advise people on local housing issues and have to refer them to the charity I work for? The citizens advice bureau if you think about it is a huge waste of taxpayers money. Hey, but never mind that, let's ban smoking!!!
<span style='font-family: Comic Sans MS'><span style='font-size: 12px;'>It's all done in the best possible taste. </span></span>

How very grown up of you to take the piss out of my 'don't take things out of the smoking debate thread and use them in other threads' post.

The C.A.B. are fookin useless thats for sure... They employ people from the university of life (which is good), but theres no formal training, so essentially, unless the person helping you has already gone through the problem you are experiencing, they will be of no help to you...
For example, I could get a job there, and if someone asked me about debt advice, I'd be able to provide a lot of useful advice, having been there before... But they could ask about immigration, and i'd be no use whatsoever, and have no idea where to find help.
I have a friend who is trying to emigrate to Florida at the moment... He's been trying to sort it out for 6 years now, and has a stack of money behind him... It sounds like its not an easy task. Keep at it tho, the person who puts effort in gets rewarded.

If you're in the USA you'll want to phone the U.C.S.C.I.S
There's a free phone number for it, a 1800 one but I dont have it to hand.
If you're in the UK phone the consulate office, it's about 3 quid a minute though.
If you have a record, any kind of record you can forget it.

"The citizens advice bureau if you think about it is a huge waste of taxpayers money"
Didnt even know the CAB was tax payer funded...... Learn something new every day.... I thought it was all volunteers who gave there time free of charge.....
Its useless to me now, as the one I tried before shut down.... Lack of funds..
But years ago when it was open, to there credit they were worth there weight in gold. I was fired from a job (nastilly, suddenlly, and unfairly) so I went to CAB, and they helped me take it to a tribunal, even went to the tribunal with me.
I won.
THANK YOU CAB..
Compare that to the GMB union (bent as a nine bob note in my opinion) who hire a top law firm to represent me (also in MY opinion bent as a nine bob note) and they were less than useless. In fact looking back now, they did everything between them to feck my case up..............
Ok the CAB case was a low paid job, and the other one was for a highly paid job, a career, severe damage to health, and loss of over 100 grand investment, but hey, the cab put more effort into helpng me than the union and the top law firm combined. Not bad for free....
Course, as you say, it differs according to who you get on the day.....
