why would anyone bid on an item ? when theres still hrs or even days to go? hasnt anyone heard os snipping? you wait untill the last 15 secs, and not a moment sooner and place the highest possible bid you would go to. untill then never ever ever bid, as alll you do is up the price.

I was selling some lights for my car on eBay. I got about 6 emails all saying they tried this last 30 seconds bid. When they clicked place bid, it came up listing ended. According to the eBay boffs where the item was getting loads of hits/refreshers in the last 3 minutes it was slowing down the server/network (what it is) so my listing showed 1 minute left when really it had like 15 seconds left. Hence the failed bids.

I contacted eBay saying look my lights sold for like £350, when I'm being emailed from bidders stating they missed bidding but time remained on listing and their bids were a lot higher... I asked eBay what they will do about it. This was their reply (between the arrows) > < nothing, no reply 4x I emailed.

when you really think about it what could ebay have done???

unless there was a reserve price then the price that it sold for is the contracted price it has to be sold.if so many people are on ebay at one time yeah there probably will be a slow down on the server.

i always put my bids in 5mins before it ends unless its something really popular where i then bid my maximum price straight way.

if anybody has any concerns about the machine then the best thing is to ask the seller for the serial number of the machine and then contact the police and BACTA to see if its on there most wanted list of stolen goods

i sell as well as buy goods and i know what you mean? once you get your first bid in place in seems to attract other people to it. its like well it cant be that bad??? cause look someone else thinks its good aswell. so as a seller BID EARLY!! please... as a buyer and giving a tip. open two ebay windows one with your bid placed ready to confirm and the other window just sat there and keep hitting refresh, every 5 secs. then when ready to place your bid ?????? alll you have to do is press confirm.

I asked the seller when the thread first came up they answered me.
Answer seemed ok *but not actual proof shown to me*, but "not right" if you know what I mean, as they would have updated the auction to reflect this info, especially as I mentioned there were concerns the machine may be stolen.

No idea if its legit or not, buyer beware..

From my point of view it may well be, or it may not be. I cant say, nor wish to even guess. I would not bid without actual paper work being faxed through first though, as if you won it and it was stolen, and you reported it, you would lose it.....

AS fo ebay screwing up, it does happen that ebay goes down, or goes slow.
So even hitting confirm in the last few seconds wont always work if ebay fecks up at that point.

Cant see why people cant just put in the highest amount they are willing to pay and forget about it. People whine after sniping that they got outbid? Why is that? because someone was honest and said to ebay I am WILLING TO PAY MORE THAN THE OTHER BIDDER......................
Early bids do push price up usually, but last second bids also run the risk of not actually getting in last few seconds, or being outbid, then realising that you wished you had bid a few quid more........

Keep trying, one of my hobbies is putting silly low price bids on ebay.

99 percent of the time, I lose out.

But that 1 percent that I get that bargain makes it worthwile.

Sick of ebay at the moment, fecking idiots leaving a neg and a neutral...

Cant win on ebay sometimes as a seller, specially if you have a honest nature, and think there is no harm in leaving someone a positive first...

Must get out of that habit - its a BAD habit on ebay. Trust no one, they are out to get you............ Well not all, but there are idiots out there, and they
will leave negs or neutrals for a laugh, or spite because you didnt fall for a con.

for example, most recent neg. For a photocopier......

Item was FULLY working, and photographed fully working, with example of it photocopying, and the final output.

Auction stated, it will need a service to get it 100 percent if used for business, but ok for home use.

Auction stated BUYER to SEE IT WORKING when they come to collect, failing that, I will show it working to the courier...... And after that I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE.

I did that, as I want them to see it working, if they feck it up in transit, or at home then they did it, not me!

Buyer gets back to me (after stating he wants it prepacked, so the courier CANNOT see it working... hmmm) and says all copies are coming out blank....
He also says he has checked the toner and its ok.....

Later he says he has had a check from a engineer, and the engineer says the start button is dead... Circuit boards are blown, Paper guides are missing etc etc etc.

Hmmmm Start button is dead? Odd it worked for me.. It also worked for the buyer or he would not have got blank copies (or so he claims, he bullshitted me about the toner motor, but I replied to that, and guess what, no mention of faulty toner in the second engineers report....)

Circuit boards blown? Guides missing? Blank copies (if they were which they would not have been) would not have come out at that point if that was the case..

I suggested that maybe it was damaged in transit, so claim with courier...

his reply, was I spend TENS of THOUSANDS a year with courier firm XYZ so they will always deliver it carefully.

Odd his only neg on ebay is for a item damaged by a courier....
Odd he is currently selling delivery damaged items....
Odd He has only left a neg, and not claimed his money back.

He knows he is trying to pull a fast one, and knows he would be in legal trouble if he tried to claim money back, that is why he has not.

But it doesnt stop him leaving a neg. Twat.....

Then I get a neutral saying the item is fine, but had to wait a "short" while for delivery, sheesh she got it in a week. I dont promise next day delivery, I often do it, but I dont advertise it. Ebay says dont even think about complaining until nothing happens for 10 days....
Doesnt stop idiots though, or online con artists, bullies etc from using feedback as a leverage tool (he even tried feedback blackmail the first fella)

However 3 months later it was back on and sold for £650! Gutted :(

To true kensplace I have just had a neg given to me as the buyer said it wasnt what he expected. Musnt have been able to see the ask seller a question link. He was a new member and uses his 1st feedback to give a neg. I have even seen sellers writing " feedback will be left on a one for one basis" That will just make all buyers leave a pos even if they dont want to. I have a non paying bidder at the minute that will not answer my emails, what am I going to do about it? NOTHING AT ALL!! If I leave a neg or enter a non paying bidder strike they will just leave me neg feedback as ebay has yet to make it so a non paying bidder can still leave feedback for an item they did not buy. OOOHHH I GETS ME SO ANNOYED!! Still love it though.

Classic examples include the 'Compacks' laptop (misspelling - should have been Compaq - Compacks is a VERY cheap DVD player supplier), which went for about £100, when the RRP was about £700 and it was mint condition...

I've had bargains on eBay before - you may remember I sold a laptop recently? The price I sold it for was EXACTLY the same as I paid the year before. I knew that £400 was cheap for a Centrino, fully boxed, with a months guarentee left, so I snapped it up. Sold it for £400 12 months later. While I didn't make cash on the deal, I had a sweet laptop for 12 months, for free :)

Most of the bargains I get (and my mum gets, she deals in pottery, mainly Hornsea), are on collectable pottery. Sometimes you just have to take the risk on a very cheap piece without a picture, and when it arrives it is worth a great deal more. Got a hornsea 'hand shaped dish thing', paid £2, sold for £50.

Not an amazing amount of money, but if you an do that with a couple of items per day, thats £32000 per year.

I also know of a story through MSN, whereby someone used to buy stock from a 'Poundland', sell at £2 on eBay, and managed to do quite well off that :D

Laughing at that poundland story

My missus used to sell underbed storage bags on eBay, she got them for 50p from a pound shop and they used to sell up to £4 each

Funniest thing I heard about being sold on Ebay was:

Plasma Screen TV - 61 Inch Picture

The guy then emailed a 61 Inch picture of a Plasma Screen TV to the buyer. He managed to sell three at a few grand a pop before he was finally arrested :-D
