Hi guys,
i got a JPM monopoly quiz machine for cheap as it was for spares/repair - the fault that was diagnosed on it was a faulty sound sample board, everything else was working fine ie coin mech, game play, power supply, motherboard etc. however, i switched it on today and i'm not getting anything from it. It powers up but all i get is a flickering display (blue, then when one of the lights on the main board come on it goes black) the four lights on the main board come on when the display is off and 3 are on when the display works. i get no lights at all(board lights). there is no graphical display whatsoever just a blue screen, almost like its not booting.
I've taken all the bits and pieces out and checked for visual damage, both cables and boards, put it all back together, checked it was secure, and still nothing. the battery on the main board is supposed to be 2.4v, 150mAh but is only reading at around 1v could this be the problem?? or is that just wishful thinking. any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks Guys

Scott.

hard to tell on these machines as they were a bugger to fault find but it looks like it could still be the sound sample board thats still taking the machine down or the mpu itself.

oh and yeah the battery should also be replaced.

The addon cards (program, sound, video and memory) need to be fitted in certain sockets in order to work. I can't remember off hand, and if the motherboard has that black plastic cover, it'll be hard to tell which.

Basically with the motherboard exposed, you will be able to see around the expansion sockets some text, which will show what type of card can be used in which socket - note the cards will physically fit in any socket, but the machine may not boot if the cards are in the wrong sockets.

Thanks for the quick replies guys.
I think its gone to gaming machine heaven though.

the battery is just used to keep the memory active ie percentage payout/high scores etc. it looks like the MPU board is the problem. Tried 3 fruit machine repair places, and 3 arcades so far today but everyone keeps saying that these machines are prone to this 'blue screen of death' and that they don't deal with them anymore.

Apparently JPM boards will keep resetting until the problem is fixed (the blue and black screens) so the video board looks ok.

the only things left is the MPU board and the memory board.

I need to wait on one of the engineers coming back from holiday and see if they'll let me use there monopoly machine to test my boards. but if anyone has a way of telling if a board is knackered feel free to tell me

Thanks Again
Scott

its a case of trial and error with these (which is why i hated working on them years ago).
yeah the battery is just used for what you said but nevertheless the battery you have is running very low.

hey Baz, i've kind of got it working somehow. it comes on about 30 seconds after i switch it on now. i get the monopoly man, and the touchscreen logo i put some money in, it freezes and an alarm goes off.
it works occasionally and i get the 'touch screen to start' logo. i touch the screen, and again it freezes, goes to a black screen comes back 10/15 seconds later having used 1 credit. almost like the game has started but theres no screen.

got any idea's??
Thanks
Scott

If there isn't one available elsewhere, I can possibly sort you out with a video card, but no guarentees on it. I assumed it was causing a fault on my Cluedo SWP, so I swapped it for a reconditioned one, but it gave the same fault - which appears to be with the touchscreen itself.

So I have a JPM Video card, which may or may not work, and which came with the 9pin connector from the touchscreen actually soldered onto it, rather than screwed into a 9pin female socket.

If you are interested, I can upload a picture tomorrow morning/afternoon, so you can see if you are interested?

I also have a spare IMPACT 1994 (from memory) mainboard, probably some memory cards spare as well...

SYSTEM 5 Video?

My Cluedo is an IMPACT Video, I had no idea that Monopoly used SYSTEM 5 :S

Looks like I won't be able to help then.

Doesn't seem right to me, I can't believe that they used different techs...

Thanks anyway ben, i'll just need to stick it in the garage and keep my eyes open for one on ebay or something.
Do you know any suppliers or repairers that would still have something like this?

Thanks
Scott

Hmmm, one name that springs to mind when thinking of older machines is Red Rose Leisure. They have contact details on :

http://www.redroseleisure.co.uk/

Note that they might be quite expensive, but I've heard good things from several sources about them. I've seen them on eBay buying a large amount of older machines before, often for quite a bit of money :)

Hi guys just a wee update on whats happening now. i got a new main board and everything powers up straight away. the touch screen was only working on the bottom 1/4 so it thought i'd clean it after checking the connections etc. now the touch screen doesn't work period. can the touch screen membrane go faulty? and does the earthed piece of glass behind it have to touch all the connections for it to work, or is it just a safe gaurd incase someone gets pi****d off with it and puts there fist through it?

thanks again
scott.
