A man is a man for a' that...Rabbie Burns.
The guy was a great footballer..no doubt.
But I'm sorry...From what I saw of him as a man, he was a complete tit and full of himself. Anyone who can proclaim himself the best footballer ever after winning...well not very much...is a twat.
Which becomes an even bigger twat when he gets a liver transplant and then promptly starts drinking again...Can't the guy take a hint? What a disgrace to the family who gave him it.
No doubt about the skill, but no brains at all..at all..at all...Best by name, worst by nature!!!

Sorry to disagree-cos it's easy to see and say well.well.well 2nd chance liver transplant and all that but let's face it the guy was an alcoholic and whether u like it or not it's a disease, an illness and most certainly not a choice.Never a Man U fan but my old man was and saw the legend(unfortunate not to have played at a higher level to prove it-but we don't get to choose the country of our birth either just like the things that afflict us) however seen a video of him and who could argue if u've seen him in any sort of action, live or recorded. At the end of the day R.I.P. Bestie and thoughts go out to family and friends.

George Best (22 May 1946 – 25 November 2005) was a Northern Irish football international who is mainly remembered for his time with Manchester United F.C. and widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of the game. He played for United between 1963 and 1974, helping them to win the Football League Championship in 1965 and 1967, and the European Cup in 1968. The same year, he was named European Footballer of the Year and Football Writers' Association Player of the Year. "Pelé called me the greatest footballer in the world. That is the ultimate salute to my life." There's a starter for 10

So, two league Championships and a European cup constitutes the world's greatest footballer by your logic does it MordaciousK...Plus of course, he was really only fit for 6 years....1965-71 before he started having problems....Sorry mate, but 6 years at your peak averaging less than a goal every 3 games doesn't make him the greatest. Besides that he spent almost 10 years playing for lower league Fulham, various clubs in Australia and America (so he could enjoy the lifestyle)...and Hibs up here in Scotland. If you take Man Utd off his CV it reads like shit. I have no bugbear with him...He was a fantastic footballer (for 6 years)..and for that I will remember him...but nowhere near being the greatest.
As for your comment on alcoholism....An addiction is hard to beat, but those that WANT to beat it will do.....It may be hard but it's beatable. Truth is, that Bestie never wanted to stop and paid the price. That's FACT!!! I work in a job where I see people quitting every day and I can assure you if even one of them faced death, needing a new liver...they would stop.
R.I.P. Georgie Boy!!!

Here we go, you are knocking george best because you give a few statistics about his career, did you ever see him play obviously not.
Gazeyre1966 here are a few statistics about Pele who in my opinion couldn't do up george best shoe laces.
"We have some retards who have never seen Pele play and say that he is the best...bullshit. This the most overated player that ever existed. His trophies can't be equaled? He has 3 world cups...thats the only thing that can't be equaled since he doesn't have anything else, since he never played in Europe. Yes, I hate to break it down to you, but he played in Brazil and most of his goals were against Teams from the province of Amazonia. Then he scored a couple of goals in the good ole' USA, that first learned how to kick the ball properly. Yes, really good player.... He is 1/4 of what George best ever was as a footballer...even Zidan is better than pele, as other countless football players. f*** Pele!"
Get my point Gazeyre1966.

'So, two league Championships and a European cup constitutes the world's greatest footballer by your logic does it MordaciousK'.If you've read my posts properly I never once said 'the world's greatest footballer' myself that was in fact a quote from Pele and ok he only won 3 world cups but I'd say Pele would know far better than you or I whether he was a great or not. What I said was he was a legend, you even said in your original post he was a great footballer.Besides he went to a grammar school meaning he played rugby and only football in the evenings and weekends-so how good must he have been?

Nothing changes the fact that he orchestrated his own demise, end of..
good footballer or whatever he still had so many chances and lived life to excess that ultimately cost him his life
but by sounds of it being a footballing legend gives you a licence to make a mockery out of the people who tried to help him and the only real person who suffered was george himself in the end, only george can judge his own life now and the mistakes he made and yeah R.I.P

Footballs finest
Shall remain George Best
Preparing himself
For the long rest
As the nation weeps
And remembers your skills
You leave behind
Determined wills
Your enemy though
Was the drink
Time for all
To pause and think!
Tackling the rough
And enjoying the run
We shall remember
Your hours of fun
Fans alike salute you sir
Sobering thoughts without a blur!

For all you people who have no sympathy for him , just spare a thought for his family who are going through hell, callum has lost his dad, dickie has lost his son and he didnt think he would outlive his son his sister and brother have lost a brother, that is just like normal life , we will all go through this one day loss of loved ones , george wanted us to remember him for his football not the abuse that claimed his life, , his mother died from alcohol abuse and george will be buried along side her yes george got a second chance at life he failed but it doesnt make him a bad person
