whilst we can all knock his drink problem, you cannot take away the pure skill he had in his day. A master showman, a mahamid ali of football. Those of you who has seen some of his maches will know what im talking about, he would dance around a goalkeeper, and leave him an open goal-mouth.

For all you people who have no sympathy for him , just spare a thought for his family who are going through hell, callum has lost his dad, dickie has lost his son and he didnt think he would outlive his son his sister and brother have lost a brother, that is just like normal life , we will all go through this one day loss of loved ones , george wanted us to remember him for his football not the abuse that claimed his life, , his mother died from alcohol abuse and george will be buried along side her yes george got a second chance at life he failed but it doesnt make him a bad person
If he had spared a thought for his family, maybe he would not have killed himself drinking. But he didnt spare a thought did he? Did he care about the effects it would have on his family? Guess not, he knew the score, but went ahead anyways.
If he had spared a thought for the other families who lose people through excess drinking, then perhaps some of his final interviews would have been about begging people not to drink yourself to death folks rather than just being a idiot like he has been for ages.
This guy killed himself, and wasted a great opportunity to help others by educating them.
He played football for gods sake, plenty of people who actually make a difference in this world die all the time, and get hardly a mention on the news. Some ancient footballer who topped himself gets massive coverage, screwed up world this is.

We could go on and on about his drink problem arguing back and forth and by all accounts he could be an arse when he'd had a few too many by the same token there's a night when he had a few too many and purposely handed a down and out on the street a fifty pound note.I'm assuming none of us knew him personally and we're all sad to see him go if not for him for his family. We're generally agreed he was a great footballer just not on how great so
R.I.P. George Best,Great footballer,legend?

Only just saw this, as to be honest I was bored (along with many?) of the George Ping-Pong.
But I believe MordaciousK hit the nail-on-the-head here with this reply.
