thanks for the pics.

if that is the same hopper that you have then that hopper is not designed for mpu4 machines.

i am assuming the previous owner maybe had a faulty hopper and bought a replacement which was the wrong type.

i will try to have a look for the correct hopper for your machine but obviously my hoppers will be for £1.00 coins so you will need to get the equivilent hopper but the euro version.

regards
baz

Thanks Baz,

I've sent a mail to the German retailer who sells them machines; asking them which hopper my machine should have. They were very helpful before, so I hope to get a reply from them very quickly. I'll let you know as soon as I have 'em

Cheers,

Rich

Just received word from the German importer of Barcrest machines: the hopper I have is the one that should be inthere, and after I gave them my brief problem description they said four things could be wrong:

- power supply defective,
- hopper driver board defective,
- hopper itself defective,
- MPU4 defective

I have checked the power on the 4way molex plug connected to the hopper and there is power onthere, so I guess that rules out the power supply and hopper driver board; what remains are a defective mpu4 or a defective hopper itself.

So I'm not trying to get my hands on a 2nd hand replacement hopper to see whether the error still persists after I connected the replacement hopper

european machines must be made differently from the uk release machines as that style of hopper has never been in a mpu4 machine released in the uk.

maybe its a rebuild using older tech.

in 13 years of engineering that would be the first case of seeing that style of hopper in an mpu4 machine.

you learn something new everyday!!!

btw

i would still think its the hopper thats at fault.

Got me a Money Controls Compact Hopper 1 pound coinage through eBay UK, fitted it into the machine, fired it up in Test Mode, tried test 1.2 Payout Test 1 coin (Hold A button): same error. Next step: wiring check from the hopper down to wherever

the problem sounds like its the mpu4 board as i had the very same problem with a QPS cash lab, once i changed the mpu4 board the machine was working perfect.

i am 100% certain its the mpu4

measure the opto pin (coin count) with the machine powered up, it should alter voltage when a the opto is blocked with a coin or bit of card that you stick next to it.

If it does not then the opto is dead.

Now measure the opto supply, should be present and as rated. If not, cable or mpu fault.

right girls

your hopper should be a purple 4 pin parrelle coincontrol mk1 hopper
psu line out voltage to hopper driver check this should be around 24v or 12v depends
mpu4 check triacts output
or the barbus loom that the big fat red loom check for breaks

sounds silly but if you have another coin mech try this why this if its any thing to do with the coin input and output mech have been known for knocking out this line before

i mentioned about the hopper but a german supplier said he has the right type.

i thought it was the wrong hopper he had as well because i would have thought it was a purple hopper also(remember he is using euros and not £££s)

the pictures of the hopper that were provided earlier on in the post dont match up with mpu4 tech in uk machines anyway.
