Does anyone watch any quiz channels on sky?
I recently started watching The great British Quiz and how they find the answers for there number games is beyond me. This one quiz went on for around 4 hours and nobody gave the right answer they went on to a snake game which was easy so i rang up around 30-40 times but with no luck in getting through Does anybody really win on these channels or am i right in saying they are one of the biggest cons on tv.

There was a thread on this a while ago somewhere.....
I don't think they are a con as such....but just as you say, the answers are so impossible to work out from the Cryptic Cryptic clues you don't have a hope of 'getting' what they are on about until 4 hours into the show (and they have made a zillion Quid on calls) when they narrow out the numbers....eg the answer to '3 Cows how many hooves'? and it wouldn't surpise me if the answer was 342----they would arrange it that way somehow in the wording!--------
Hopefully you get my point.

I was watching one of these channels the other night, and it was about famous sayings ... it was all anagrams, but the one that was on was really, really easy.... can't remember what it was now... but something along the lines of 'Home Is Where The Heart Is'.
Anyway, I didn't phone in, cos I thought no... it can't be that easy... and I actually watched for HALF AN HOUR before a caller finally got through to the studio and got it right.
All the time the presenter is going 'come on callers, we need to get someone through to the studio... ' and no one got through for 30 minutes!?
Definately a scam... its alright if you called once and got through straight away, won a couple of hundred quid, and then never bothered again!

yeah if the prize is 200 quid then they are going to wait until at least 500 people have phoned at £1 a call before they put a caller through.

the thing i like is that the presenters get that bored and frustrated with the callers getting it wrong they sometimes seem to lose it a bit? especially the ones on men and motors, if you called 30-40 times id be dreading your next phone bill lol

The number ones are pretty impossible to guess because of the upteen number of ways they can work it. For example take the sentence:
1. IF FRED, MARIA AND STEVEN GET FIVE PRESENTS EACH FOR XMAS HOW MANY PRESENTS IN TOTAL?.
COUNT THE NUMBERS
There will be 5 or 6 of these easy questions and hundreds of people phone up thinking they no the answer.
OK, so the easy answer is 15 for the first question.
But that's not even close!
OK, maybe they need you to count the 'five' in the question so you get 20.
Nope
OK, add on the 1. at the start? 21
Still no where near it.
You will need to count up all the roman numerals as well!!
M - 500
C- 100
L - 50
X - 10
V - 5
I - 1
(not sure if I have all those right)
OK, so think you have it now? Well probably not, take the word FIVE, what does that add to:
FIVE = 5
I = 1
IV = 4
V = 5
in total equalling 15
That's if you can work out if they are counting just the IV as 4 or as I have it above.
So work that out for all 5 or 6 questions they post and with a bit of luck you might get close to the actual answer. Then your thinking do I add the roman numerals in the 'COUNT THE NUMBERS' bit - your guess is a good as mine.
If you get it right first time they'll just say you got it wrong and change the answer. The answer is so ambiguous it could be 1 of a 1000 numbers.
And guess what, they are under no obiligation to tell how the answer is worked out before or after a winner is declared.
My opinion, steer well clear.

Yes . I watch Quiz.tv and have won a total of £3825 in the past 3 months and all from the free web entry .
Once you know the logic for a particular game you can win time and time again
These channels arnt a con , the games may look easy , but thats part of the quiz , to gain money for themselves and to cover the price money

I think your'e missing the point slightly. Yes there might be logic for the quiz, but they can change it whenever they like.
The quizzes prey on the weak and less intelligent amongst us and that's where they get all their money from, ie, the people who can least afford to spend the money. I sit there some nights flicking through the channels and you hear the same people phoning up giving the same 'no where near it' answers.
Yes, there are people who win and some that know about the internet entry, but the vast majority will just continue to lose their money.
I read somewhere that there will be a review soon of these channels. They won't be able to do the easy quizzes anymore as this then makes the quiz more of a lottery and for that they would need a different licence. I for one hope they ditch the whole lot of them so I don't have to click through them on my way to the movie channels
