Yeah, I'm looking at something around £300, which in 3 months time I'll either keep, or sell at a minimal loss.

This is your way of saving money?

Yup - it may be mental but it's what I intend to do :)

Correct me if i'm wrong Ben,but if you want to save money, why shell out 300 quid and down the line take a loss?.
If you think buying a fruity will stop you playing for real then you are greatly mistaken.
It will just surpress the feeling you have of playing "for real" and in the end you and me know what will happen.

Clubbers go cheap these days. I had one in my Friday Ad going for £200. So things in there should fit your budget fine. Perhaps an old Barcrest or JPM. They manage to trick you out of a good jackpot somehow or just suck in loads.

This is a site for EMULATION purposes of older machines. Not playing strategies.
If you are more interested in playing modern machines,
visit Jackpottyforums

(DOND is around now on this site..... How long was this sig out of date...!)

Cheers for your advice Jay, but similarly I can't simply avoid machines. To get rid of my existing machines and pretend they don't exist will only make me worse than learning a healthy respect for them. I managed to go another day without playing a bandit in public, and TBH had no wish to play anything.

The only reason I started playing again is because I was feeling pretty ill and honestly thought it was a good way to make myself feel better... stupid bloody idea that was :)

Thanks for your concern, good to know plenty of supportive people on here :)

Get your refill key at the ready Ben if ** I ** play another section 16 machine again I give you full permission to castrate me (unless I have a sure fire emptier for it!!)
So much for saying Elvis has wonderful visuals e.t.c Played it today and didn't see any of them. £150 LOST for two £1 wins, one set of £12 guitars a handful of 3*Cadillac and a couple of £4 wins. Yes, that's right.
So much for my theory that this was a fun section 16. I know, I took it too far, I should have limited myself to £20. Check this out....
I then decided to do an experiment, £20 into ten different Section 16s to see what happenned.

One which ended up in profit was Slotto, after ten spins I had made £5.50
Another one was a brand new CMS thing with chickens and eggs that paid £31.50 as it gave me a feature.
Everything else was a stone cold loss with maybe the odd £1.50 to show for 5/10 spins.

All in all, about £125 down + £150 down / £55 up on various hi-tech lo tech machines

Soooooooooooo. Now *really* is the time to stop playing Secton 16s.

The life cycle of a section 16 machine
------------------------------------

The brand new 'random' (Ahem cough splutter) machine arrives in the arcade. Several of the regulars play it and for every £600 recycled and lost, on average a jackpot is paid back for the first week. Suddenly there is no difference in the immediate gameplay, but now the jackpot is far harder o obtain.

Three Elvises arrived in three different sites. ALL of them paid 1 or two jackpots on the first day and countless more througout the week. Now the jackpot is hit just under once every fortnight. However the % still displays 94% on £2 spin. Going by myexperience today as well, short term play is tighter.

So for those who play Section 16s what actually happens?

Well you want to be able to win the big £500 jackpot right? So you select 20 lines at 10p a spin and feed in a £20 note. At first you'll be getting lots of wins, yet somehow you'll end up out of credit. Oh! You say, I can't believe I'm paying £2 a spin and three cherries are 50p. As four lots of cherries roll in you think you're on for £20, soon you realise that you need a small miracle to win anything greater than £5. These small wins have fooled you, the machine has actually paid out about 60% but you feel like you've just lost £20 in no time at all, so the next £20 goes in. The process is repeated. Occassionally you'll get the odd £25/£50 win which'll bump the % up to 75/80 ish so far. Soon you'll be wondering where that wad of £300 notes has gone. When you're down to the mouldy fivers you'll be thinking SURELY I'm not £280.....yes I am, bugger!
This has been so quick that you won't have time to get angry and you may even be able to feed another £200 notes in before even contemplating pulling the machine over in a fit of rage.
Eventually you will win an amount like £3.60 and realise that it's not going to get any better than that but then again the next spin might be that life saving jackpot. It's not and neither is the next spin, but now that lovely £3.60 has disappeared so it's time for £300 more.

Now once every week someone will put in between £2 and £1000 and drop a jackpot or two. The machine will then go back to suck, suck, suck.

Really 94% is awful on £2 a spin. That's a huge house advantage for something that happens far quicker than a spin on a roulette wheel or a horse racing aorund a track. To offer a gentleman's gamble, these should be on 99% at the very least if they're going to cost £2+ a spin. Certainly £10 spin should be 99% payout, but the Cms builds offer a mere 92%. Reflex and Barcrest offerring 94% (and I think Slotto as well) on £2/Spin.

--------

So that really is it. I'm not playing Section 16 machines ever again until the next time. No really, never ever ever again. Not even 10p once a year. Absolute non. No. Never again. A complete waste of money. Bencrest don't play them, Nudgemancrest don't play them. Anyoneanywherecrest don't play them. Waste of blimin'money! Waste of blimin'money! Waste of blimin'money! Waste of blimin'money! Waste of blimin'money!

I was looking at something like that. In fact I was considering getting a Monty Python's Flying Circus Club, to go with my £5 version :)

Seems to be plenty of that age kicking about on eBay - prices on things like Monty Python can be seriously variable though - saw one with loads of bids at about £300 recently, seen others with no bids at £100.
