I love the old Arcade games... and regularly use the MAME emulator to play Rampart, MoonCresta, Gauntlet, etc.

The boys at MAME have their emulator set up so that an external controller - Joystick, Trackball, Buttons, etc can all be "tied" to a PC's keyboard input. In effect, you are playing the game with real controllers.

They have gone one step further.... some people have manufactured their own cabinet, mounted the PC inside, and put the controllers where they should be in the front of the cabinet.

So to my QUESTION...

Do we have any good programmers on the website that can look at using HOOKS and calls to link the Fruit machines various buttons to an external controller????

Is it possible to link the coin input and output to an external coin mechanism...

I would imagine its possible to put the hooks into individually emulated games - but this would change from Game to Game making a standard hard to apply.

Any thoughts??

well you can use the same form of button controls that mame uses, its just keyboard mapping which MFME already has, just means no lights flashing on the buttons. I have connected a coin mech using an IPAC board and got that working fine. Main problem is the output as you say can vary from machine to machine

Hi Gary,

Is ther any way to have two way "communication" to the external buttons to allow light bulb lighting, dimming and "flashing"?

What sort of coin mechanism did you use - and was setting up the IPAC board difficult? Does it allow coin input as well?

This may work out really cool as a project!
