Any one ever had kidney stones. I just been to doctors as I had a severe pain in my left side. He did a urine test and said I had blood and protein in it. I am in so much pain and the medication he gave me don't seem to be working(co-codamol 530mg, diclofenac sodium 100mg, and tramadol 50mg). Just want to know how long this will go on for as I think I am dying with all the pain.

the co codamol you have is about the most potent painkiller you can get on prescription before hitting opiots which aint the best idea :D

Basically you've had a mineral imbalance withing your urine, most likley caused by your diet.

As for the solution, as im sure your doc told you they are generally passed out in the urine, how long is variable, anything from a couple o days to a week. Basically you just need to drink plenty of water and try and keep physically active (i know its easier said than done when in pain but its could end the pain sooner)

Thanks people, sounds like I'm in for some fun. So what is the TRAMADOL for if the co-codamol is the pain killer?

Well I have just been on the phone to NHS Direct and they told me to come to the local hospital as the pain is too much. They said i got to have an IVU(Intravenous urogram)? Some sort of x-ray she said to find out the stones location. Sounds like more fun.(not)

Well that was not a nice experience. They filled me with some dye and took some X-RAYS. I got a horn shape on my X-rays where the block is. They just said to carry on with the medication i got. :-(

Maybe its a different complaint, but I thought they could do some sort of ultrasonic "sound" that "breaks" up the stone making it easier to pass???
