The old Brenco machines from the late 70's and very early 80's. 1p play with a 50p jackpot. And the jackpot paid a single 50p coin.

There were the old BFM's with the 'NUDGE NOW' flashing box but those were like 5p a go.

I also remember one armed bandit type games that paid out in Green Shield stamps that you'd stick in a book or on a card and IIRC, could be exchanged for bingo win prizes and also lots of shops would take em.

Nice pic of Tooty Fruity there Compost. That was among the first machines I played.

When I used to go to Thompsons arcade, every time I went to Bridlington as a kid aged about 6 (to see mums side of the family, several relatives live there), I hadn't a clue about the fruit machines. I was always more into the 'unusual' stuff.

Tooty Fruity was there, Rifle Range, several Allwin machines, the 2p OXO machines I mentioned above, a couple of 'what the butler saw' machines (I had no idea what to expect, being a kid of 6 or so, but for people that don't know it is a machine you look into, and as you wind a handle it flicks through what were black and white photographs, normally of a lady undressing  ).

Also used to play the roll a coin machines. Fruit machines never really interested me until later on, I was more into things that relied on mechanisms rather than computers.

The first machines I did play in there must have been some kind of BFM Super Nudge Gambler thing, ones with the huge plastic dome buttons.

Yes, that would be it I think. It's been ages since I've been to that part of Bridlingon. I seem to recall it was close to the Expanse hotel...

Yes, that would be it I think. It's been ages since I've been to that part of Bridlingon. I seem to recall it was close to the Expanse hotel...

Thats probably the one, big arcade on its own full of ancient machines. Up near the hotels on the north side past trinty church and the donkey bridge. It used to have a load of tuttifruits right near the doors.

Anyway for the main topic I can't remember the very first fruit machine I played but i remember the first I won any money on. I was about 6 and it was a noughts and crosses machine and when you got oxo on the win line you hit 10p-100p a bit like light a nudge's nudge feature. I hit 90p which was a lot of money to a six year old back then. I was at the arcade with my friend and his mum and she was letting us play her credits. She let me keep the winnings. The arcade used to be called starburst back then next to joyland (the arcade that runs through from the promenade to the seafront) although they have probably changed names twenty years later. Other machines i remember first playing or perhaps watching include - black hole, top sprint , bonus 2's and online.

I didn't really start playing fruit machines regular until I was about 14 when the arcade video game industry started towards the trend of very short expensive games instead of the games you could play for half an hour on 10 pence when you got good at them.

These days I don't play machines at all.

First machine I ever played was an old mechanical one arm bandit.

The first machine I ever fell in love with was line up, step n skip, spoof, super spoof, win a gain, rat race, goldmine.

And it went on from there lol

My first BWB was either windfall 2p - £1.50 or cashcade 2p - £1.50 in an arcade called 'Alfies' on Kessingland Beach - Suffolk and sneeking into the holiday camp behind and emptying theirs too! lol age 11.

I dont think these have been emulated yet but if anybody knows different then please leave me a message or email me askanthea@hotmail.com

............ I remember playing in there was ScreenPlay by Maygay.

Speaking of ScreenPlay, do the machine ROM's work on the emulator without the emulation of the screen?

Thanks.

The first machine I remember playing I think was called golden plum. It played at 10p for 4 spins with a 20p jackpot, doubled to a huge 40p for getting 3 plums with the golden plum on the middle reel. Must have been around 1980.
God I feel old when folk post that the first machine they played was cloud 999!! :bigeyes01:

Memories. I remember Tooty Fruity. I played it so much I got what I called "Tooty Fruity Knee" from when I used to bend up & down to get my winnings. If ever my knee hurts I call it that still! I'm now 41!
Used to play Creek Road Hayling Island + Clarence Pier Southsea, in late 70's early 80's
Now "retired" from Fruit machines & play emulators instead.

Got "Pac Man thumb" too!
