Could someone answer me a quick question about tokens as I don't really know anything about how fruit machines work. 'back in't day' when just about anything over £2-£3 would be paid out in tokens i remember having pockets full of them well now and again anyway. Out of say £10 in tokens i'd be lucky if after playing them all I ended up with £4-5 in cash. I always used to think in my head anyway that the machines 'knew' that you weren't playing with real money so never played the same or paid as much as they did if you were playing on them with cash. Sounds abit stupid now but bare in mind I was just a nipper!

so did fruit machines play exactly the same when using tokens as they did when playing on them with cash?

I've been loving all the new realises of the old machines lately thanks very much guys for all the time and effort you've put into them.

hi yeah the machines did know that it was a token rather than usual coinage. ive got an oldish fruit machine with both tokens and coin slots and when i opened up the bottom front door there was counters for both in/out tokens n coins so it must of known. i dont think that it ever played differently with tokens appose to coins thou mate..

if a 20p token was put into a machine the machine would still play as if it was a 20p coin.

most people in pubs anyway didn't put the tokens back into the machines but used them to buy drink.
